I find it amusing that the fact that it shows with stars it is found to be so much more clean and correct :P

...It is not as though we do not realize what is intended... Attempts to make the world a better place by eliminating the evils of...Certain letters collected to form a string of letters...

I never really got the censor either. I mean, whats the point? It's not like everyone here doesn't swear at all. And bypassing it doesn't take much effort. Other than that, meh. Never really paid that much attention to it.

I do not swear often...especially not in English because it seems awkward to me...I do not know why this is true...Therefore the censor does not effect me very heavily...The fact remains that it is silly though

Don't assess the situation or anything!

They recently made it more stringent, so it's been filtering some odd things...

Edit: Never mind, it's not turning "assess" into "*****s" anymore. :naughty:

I don't swear much at all either, never saw the point of it. Speaking of this topic, does AN still "star" the names of other companies? Let's see...

www.amazon.com

EDIT: Guess not

Censoring profainity never bothered my between me writing the full word in the post and it being starred-out in the published version. If you're smart enough, you'll figure out what explitive I'm using.

Actually it is because they accepted the fact that other companies which sell anime also sell other things that AnimeNation don't sell. We're still not supposed to post links to products or companies which are in direct competition with AN.

I've always thought that a censor on an internet forum was stupid. But of course AnimeNation is a pretty big company and all

When someone cusses me out, and I'm made to see stars, that adds injury to insult.

None of us are mature enough to handle a filter free forum.

I do disagree, but I was not intending to start conflict...It was simply an observation that amused me XD

If I'm in an argument with someone and they can't respond without swearing, I generally regard that as a signal of their defeat. it certainly doesn't offend me. Rather, it amuses me and lets me know that I found a nice button to press.

As far as AN without such a filter? Eh, flames would spread faster than normal, and quite a few people would be more offended by certain other people than they currently are. No big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I think the filter is a nice reminder to some folks that they should try to be a wee bit more civil before they hit the Submit button next time.

Yes, and the convinient "*"s do so very much to soften this...It seems so much more civil when one writes "**** you ****** with *********** ********" then if one were able to use actual words...

...People fill in the blanks in their mind when reading it anyway you know...:P

That's because English is a good swearing lamguage. There's no need to filter out profanity in languages like French, because French swearing is too lame to cause anyone serious offense.

Yeah, and besides. France sucks. And if we filter Finnish cuss words...I mean...Nobody speaks Finnish...

French is a horrible language to swear in...When one hears a person on the street announce "Merde!"...Does one really assume something so horrible happened for them? XD

Y...I mean...Nobody speaks Finnish...
...Pfft...Only one of many things which are problematic in the world XD

Hmm, I disagree.

Nothing can beat such things as, "Es scortum obscenus vilis" or "Te odeo, interfice te cochleare".

As far as French, yeah... kind of lame. Although now I have a different idea when I hear "Zoot Suit Riot" on the radio.
