This is my first time coming into this sub forum and its almost sad that the only thread in a such a good show isn't even about the show... its a versus between it and Evangelion.

Its not the only thread.

Yes, but it's the only active one, so the guy's right. I am SO tired of comparing I wanna puke....

This is true. This series has so many details that are worth analysis and discussion, but the only thing people seem to think about is its relationship to Eva. It's disappointing to me, especially since I really am fond of this anime.

Isn't this.... just another one of those discussions?
I haven't seen Rahxephon, but it is on my "someday when I don't have anything else to rent" list.

No one is comparing the two. It's simply a discussion about NOT comparing them.
That's too bad.

I know why this section is slow, cause Rah didn't leave you with all kinds of wierd questions when it was over, unlike EVA with all of it's unexplained plot holes that even a movie couldn't fill. So, RahXephon gets a nice thumbs up for that.
Even though RahXephon has some similarities to EVA, there are more things about Rah that are different from EVA.

Wouldn't be so sure of that. There are a million little twists I got at the second watch and half the plot is actually ver hard to get without the RahXephon Bible.

Well, maybe it was just me that didn't feel that way. At least there are answers for those problems in RahXephon. EVA doesn't really have anything like that, and if Gainax gives an explanation to something they just bring up another question for us to ponder. It's kind of fooked up.

Another post about the comparisons between Eva and Rah? You are just adding fuel to the fire my friend.

I must say in the end...does it really matter? I mean you try so hard and get so far...but in the end does it matter? You fall, and you lose it all...but in the end does it really matter? Oh sorry, that song was stuck in my head. RahXephon and Eva....please please quit comparing the two...there is nothing to gain from this trivial comparison

You're the one who brought it up.
This subforum is basically dead anyway, I don't know what they were thinking bringing it back after that "studio specific" fiasco.

Lol. Indeed. Rah fans will argue that Eva wasn't all that original in itself. Basically, though, at the end of it all, it was Eva's success that most likely gave rise to the show, but it still establishes itself quite well and is certainly well written. Both among my top 10.
Anyone seen Fafner? If you're into these types of shows, I recommend it. Not quite Rah or Eva in my eyes, but not bad. Quite pretty at times. And turned out to be easier to get into than I thought. I held it off for awhile assuming the first couple episodes would be pretty grueling, but it gets to be an interesting watch fairly quickly. No qualms with my mistake though, as that would be what enabled me to make it to the release of DVD 7 before starting. And it was certainly easier to take in during a small span of time.

Obviously Sick Visions = pickles.
What is with these blind accusations? First I was Joeshie, and now I'm Sick Visions....Why can't anyone accept I am just a random person on the net with such an awesomeness to him? I know it is difficult but you must learn to accept. Remember, it is not the person behind the pickles that is your concern...

It would have been better if you had ordered the artbox edition of the Movie. It's a lot nicer and it has place for all the 8 dvds.

Yes, but you'd probably still have to buy vol. 3 and 5 at full price, making your total well over $70. Hell, I got my thinpak for under $60, and I think it looks nicer than both of the original artboxes.
Yes, RahXehpon really does deserve more credit than just "zOMG EVA COPYPASTA!!!1!!111!!" In fact, I see things in RahX that have more in common with Escaflowne or or any other Sunrise mecha show, but you never hear any of those fans screaming copypasta.

You can get the thinpak for $50, which contains the complete series. It doesn't contain the movie(well I don't think it does)....but it doesn't really matter because the movie really sucks.
"EVERYTHING" for $50? I thought you still need to buy volume 3 & 5 which would cost a total of more than $50.

is the movie really that bad?

October 15th, 2006, 12:46 AM
I didn't think the movie was that bad. I enjoyed it, actually. Then again, I enjoyed it for all the wrong reasons. I wasn't so concerned on the actual story, but Haruka's character and her love story. Such a good character. :)
Here's what you're missing with the movie box...

As for the issue of this thread... it's probably the only reason this board still exists. A place where all Evanerds can lash out their frustrations. Perhaps it's best if we ignore them?

Heh, those three pics remind me of the ones I like to take of my Rah collection to piss off other fans in my country. And given that I got all the artbooks that can be found outside Japan, plus some OSTs and novels... and ALSO given I'm the only one in my country to have the original DVDs...

The whole Eva v Rax argument is ridiculous . Almost as much as the sub v dub debate.
Even the ADV voice monkeys noticed it. This is from the Puni Puni Poemy audio commentary (I still can't figure out why I listened to it ^_^ )
It goes something like this
1 This ending here was lifted straight from Ideon. Which was by the way one of the main inspiration for Evangelion.
2 (sarcastic) I heard Eva was a copy of Raxaphon
3 (laughing [I think]) No Eva is a copy of Najica [blitz tactics]
As I said I don’t remember it exactly, but you get the idea.

The movie isn't bad... but its... kinda pointless unless you're a die hard fan of the show. Its like a 2 hour recap of the series with variations on dialog/intent (although the outcomes, events and animations are identical to the show).

Actually the movie is less of a recap but an alternate retelling of the story but from a different point of view with different events taking place that makes it even more different from the TV series.
It's similar to what the Escaflowne movie is to the Escaflowne tv series.
Mr. sickVisionz

Is that so...
I'll admit I never watched it all the way through... but thats only because the first like 20 minutes were a recap of the first 3-4 episodes and as I skipped around it was the same video and was basically a recap. But I guess they slipped a new scene in here and there between the recaps. But I even watched the end and it was the same video as the show, just being recapped with one dialog change (that old guy was angry rather than being excited about what had happened).

You should try to see the whole thing. True it's basiclly the same story but quite a few details are pretty different, especially the ending (the reason why deals with the relationship between Ayato and Haruka now how things play out for them in the movie compared to the series. For example the girl who is with Haruka in the end and her and their relation.). The movie is pretty much I believe Haruka's story since it really focuses on her a lot compared with the series where it tries to cover everyone. Like I said it's more of a retelling then a recap (things aren't so much extended but different). I think that it's a defined difference. I really liked the film and think it's pretty good. It's more of a companion to the series I feel instead of being a replacement for the series.

i didnt mind the show and i didnt really think of it as evangelion because the only similarities i saw was the mecha and that was it and as i stated before i thought it was a good show

Rah isn't a Eva copy. There are a few things that were similar, but I doubt they copied evangelion at all. The show is ALOT different. Now, if you people really do like the show... make some THREADS about it!
