I haven't read a whole lot but the one's i have seen i liked, Rosa Chinensis host a site called Lililicous that scanlate's yuri manga and also host them at daily yuri on live journal... there's to many for me to list them all, if you want to watch some anime serie's I'd suggest Marimite (it's pretty much got revered status), Kashimishi (if it doesn't bother you that the main character used to be a guy... but it reconstructed after being run over by a UFO as a girl) Kannazuki no miko (Lot's of drama and a happy ending WATCH PAST CREDITS) Revolutionary Girl Utena, and if you like real life show's watch saving face (REALLY good romantic comedy).

The only good yuri manga that I can think of that's being released in English to bookstores is Kashimashi. The first volume is due out before the end of the year, but I don't recall the exact date.

Like earsofdoom, I'd suggest paying Lililicious a visit. Scanlations are a yuri manga fan's best friend, and the only way you're likely to get a lot of the better titles. Though it's possible Viz will get off their arse and release Marimite at some point before we all die...

If you're into novels, the Strawberry Panic novels have been licensed, though I don't think we'll see them before next year. Not 100% sure on the release date, though.

No manga yet. Just the novels. :) Incidently, they were licensed by the same folks who picked up Kashimashi. If Viz didn't have a strangle-hold on Marimite, I bet they'd have picked that up, too, to complete their lesbian triad. ^_^

Viz had marimite?.... what? they usually go with action stuff.

It's a Shueisha title, which pretty much means it's Viz or nothing. There's a possiblity that Viz will let it go, but it's equally possible they'll put it under their Shoujo Beat label. These are the people who brought us Utena, after all. ^_^

There's an OEL manga called Steady Beat about a girl who finds out her sister is a lesbian.
I'd also recommend ALC Publishing(the publishing arm of Yuricon-- do a search for Yuricon to find it. You can get some of their stuff from bookstores like Amazon too)'s stuff, especially their translations of Japanese works.
Let's see, what else hasn't already been mentioned... there's a yuri story in volume 4 of Confidential Confessions. I liked it but I've seen mixed reviews of it around.
Tokyopop has put out a manga by Sakurazawa Erica (mangaka of Love Vibes, which you can find scanlated at Lililicious) called Between the Sheets. I didn't like it as much as Love Vibes, and I think a lot of yuri fans have expressed negative opinions of it.
There's Chirality, which was recced by someone in another thread.
The yuri volume of Loveless, volume 4, isn't out yet, but it will be eventually.
Blue is a great (but somewhat depressing) manga by Nananan Kiriko. It might be harder to find in bookstores, but it is out there. It used to be readily available from Amazon, but the last time I checked, it was out of stock there.

There are others, but I wouldn't really recommend them.

The daily_yuri community on livejournal, which earsofdoom mentioned above, is a good starting point for yuri manga scanlations (and short teasers for licensed yuri manga and f/f American comics), though you have to join the community to be able to view the posts.

Ah, crap. If VIZ has Marimite we're all screwed. They're worse at censoring then Funimation is. They're gona turn everyone into sisters and cousins and tone down the hand holding and embracing shots!

It's gona be horrible!

Considering Funimation doesn't censor or edit their titles, your statement has little to no impact. But, yeah, Viz wouldn't be my first choice. But as Marimite isn't going to be a mainstream title, I'm less worried about things. And the shoujo titles seem to fair better than their other lines, and their isn't any fanservice with nipples anywhere. The overall quality would still be less than if it was coming from Del Ray or ADV (though their business practices left much to be desired, their quality was great for what they did get out), but editing isn't really a concern. The subtleties in how they address each other and some of their speech, though, worries me. But I'd be concerned about that with any company, including Geneon if they ever give us the anime.

This made me laugh. They're already "sisters" and cousins. That would actually be the problem, particularly in the case of Rei and Yoshino. Oh, and Sachiko and her yaoi bait cousin. They'd have to find a way to take all of that out, not add it in, unless they were going for some kind of hentai flick to boost sales. ^_^

Tokyopop did get the German license for both the Marimite manga and novels (and I think they're coming out soon!), but I have no idea what companies are competing over there.

Wow, the manga and novels are licneced in Germany? What the hell is taking america so long? Can't they see that it is a highly requested title?

This was commented on at AOD, so I'm not sure of the particulars. Something to do with Viz basically not existing in that market, so TP Germany arranged to release those titles there. Same deal with some other Viz/Shouen Jump titles.

How many volumes of the Marimite manga are out in Japan? Viz might not want to release them at the moment if there aren't enough to keep it going at a steady pace without catching up to the source. Or, best case scenario for fans, Viz is waiting for the anime to be released, and they and Geneon have things all planned out for cross promotion of the title. Hey, I gotta dream a little, right? ;)

Ah, I see.
There are 6 volumes of the manga out in Japan.

I'm going to guess this is why we don't have the manga yet. Given that Japanese releases are snail-paced slow in comparison to American releases, those 6 volumes wouldn't get Viz very far. They'd catch up to the source too quickly. As for the novels, there are plenty of them, but with the whole novel thing being new here, they probably haven't given those much thought (I don't think Viz has tried any novels yet?). Or they'd want to start with the manga and, depending on sales, then say, "Hey, if you like those, try these regular books, too."

Viz has a habbit of not handling manga to well, they "Change" allot of word's and sometime's print the page backward's so prepare yourself.... it might be ugly.

I really wish Seven Seas would release stuff faster, though. It always seems like I'm waiting forever for future volumes.
