View Full Version : Will they change the series' timeframe?

Second Impact supposedly happened in 2000, and these new Evangelion movies are being released starting almost seven years after 2I supposedly happened... and we're still waiting for it. So, will the timeframe be changed to prevent anachronism, or will they just leave it the way it was? I had the same question in my mind about the live-action remake, and I'm almost 100% sure they'll make it further in the future for ELAM. Still, I still haven't picked up yet whether this is supposed to leave the current canon or not, so how do you think they'll handle 2I?

For the animated ones, NO, NO, and NO. That's kind of stupid to break away from the whole series.

But for ELAM, it might be a good idea.

Where'd this come from?

Simple arithmetic. 2I was 13-SEP-00 in another world; the movies will be appearing '07 in this one.

Ohhhhh. I thought it was being suggested that the timeline of the series was being shifted or something, and I was all, "WTF?!?"

NGE's story doesn't occur in the same universe as our own (I mean, they're got people with purple and blue hair, and metaphysical biology, and stuff), so I don't see why any chronologically-related compensatory work would be required.

what movies?
Shingekijouban. (aka Rebuild)

The original post was wondering if it might (so that 2I was once again a few years into the future at the time of release). Picking one of the apocalyptically significant dates around 2011-12 for 2I and purely re-basing from there (so the main story is set in 2027) would not make any real difference to the story, and would recapture the original "it hasn't happened ... yet"

So many other series have alternate pasts (MGS for example), why is it a problem for Eva?

Another thing about changing the timeframe that I believe I forgot to mention is that it would take away the "Shin Seiki" aspect, as it wouldn't be the beginning of a new century.
