View Full Version : Something Obvious I Just Realized

I can't believe I just noticed this, considering how long it's been since I last saw the show/movie. I'm guessing most people noticed it rather quickly, but I'm going to mention this just on the off chance.

The Lance of Longinus is impaled in Lilith's chest and taken out to throw into outer space. However, Lilith did regenerate her legs a bit when it was taken out, but nothing otherwise apparently drastic happened. Then I realized, that's about (if not exactly) the spot Rei entered when the munchy thing swallowed her in EoE! It's starting to make a lot of sense now that the Lance was there in an additional effort to prevent contact and initiating Instrumentality prematurely.

So yeah, how long did it take anyone else to notice this... or is this actually something that doesn't mean anything and I'm wrong about the whole concept?

I believe it's been said before (probably in the Classified Information) that the Lance was used to regenerate Lilith, allowing her to participate in Third Impact.

I also think that just where she was impailed-- her chest (quick, someone name the anatomical term)-- was chosen because that spot coresponds with the location of Unit 01's (and we can assume all other Eva's) cores, the vessel for their respective souls.

What better place to encourage a god-being's regeneration than where their soul is supposed to reside, and also, what better place for their detached though otherwise embodied soul (Rei) to return home?

Nevertheless, you have an interesting idea, and I choose to play a humility card rather than saying you're outright wrong.

It's her core (pectoral :P) and the place where Rei was absorbed is her womb, I'd say. Why the womb...? Because of the Gendo's hand scene earlier. But you're definitely right, the womb didn't regenerate until the Lance was removed and I doubt it would've been easy to get inside that odd Pillsbury Doughboy if It weren't for the removal.

Lilith was impaled through the sternum (breast bone). (This actually seems to be the same place where Adam was impaled.) Rei's entry point seems to be right below it -- e.g., the solar plexus ("pit of the stomach"), associated in NGE with the location of the soul on humanoid beings.

FYI, the "munchy thing" could be considered a stylized vagina dentata for two frames of animation. In three, it has a distinct stylized clitoris at the top.

With teeth.

EDIT: Oh. I just realized that's what "dentata" means. Boy I'm stupid. XD

When I initally posted, "sternum" didn't have nearly enough syllables to seem correct and "solar plexus" was the term I was looking for, though I concede that "sternum" is the accurate and approriate location.

I also didn't notice before that both Rei's and the Lance's "entry points" were offset from each other. Time for another reviewing mayhaps?

In any case, much obliged. /bow
