Death & Rebirth is basically sums up the entire series. The End of Evangelion movie is what I'd reccomend you to see if you've already seen the entire series. It gives the alternate ending that is much better than that of the series.

To be precise, Death is a summary (which, if you've only seen the first half, before things start getting serious, will have a bunch of WTF!?); Rebirth is the first quarter of EoE, and stops on a major cliff-hanger.

No. Death's purpose was to summarise the series for those that had already seen it. Watching it without seeing the series will leave you with a lot of blanks.

Gonna have to agree with this; Death will be really jarring if you haven't seen everything.

It's the first 3/4 (30 minutes), and it's in an unfinished state -- hence a somewhat interesting watch if you're into that sort of thing. Plus the ending song kicks arse.

However, the true Rebirth has never been released overseas, only a cut and paste from EoE. See more here (http://www.evamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1627).

Ok, so that's the first 2/3 of the first half (episode 25'); or 1/3 of the whole, rather than 1/4. So, sue me :D

Anooooo, my brain read "Air" where "EoE" was. -_-; And my math sucks. So we were both wrong. :D OK, so each episode is like a double-episode, so for purposes of practicality they're about 45 minutes... 30 of 45 is... And 30 of 90 is... Ah. I hate fractions.

That's not really true. Death/Rebirth can be a good way to start out the series if you've already seen a few episodes. It gives you a lot of questions and leaves you wanting to watch the movie and the rest of the series.

I'd have to disagree on that

^But it also spoils the plot if you decide to go back and watch it through, as was the case with me. Saw a few episodes out of order, watched Death & Rebirth AND End of Evangelion.(to which I feel asleep to)

Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I'm just watching Death for the first time. All the character's general roles and life stories are summarized in 45 minutes? Anno is a genius.

That would be Masayuki. The psycho edit job that is DEATH is his doing.

You know, Death and Rebirth was the first bit of Eva I ever watched. Followed swiftly by EoE...I have never been the same since...

The same can be said for watching spoilers of anything.
You can watch the final episode of Gunbuster after watching ep 1. You'll have a load of questions about how the series got there, and you'll likely want to see the rest.

You can watch the final ep og Gaogaigar FINAL after seeing the first ep. You'll have a LOAD of questions on how everything ended up as it did, and you'll definatly want to see more.

Doesn't make it the best way.

^hmm thats true. I never figured that before, but you are right. Thats just how I saw Eva for the first time.

:wonders why it's so hard for newbies to just see the show front-to-back, like SHE did back in her time!:

Why, when I was your age, we had to get onto the Internets by dialing a telephone number. A TELEPHONE NUMBER!!! And only snobs had DVDs back then. It was all about VHS, and making bootlegs of other people's tapes by hooking two VCRs together! Oh yeah, and there were those nth-generation bootlegs of the movies with crappy subtitles, too. And no NPCs at all.

Yeah, that's what it was all about. Simple times, they were.

You can only lose your NGE virginity once, so do it right. Watch the show in order. And remember -- DON'T DO DRUGS!

I remember the days when having any copy of EoE got you so much respect...

Doesn't Death & Rebirth include scenes that were cut from the original series?

Doesn't Death & Rebirth include scenes that were cut from the original series?Nothing was cut from the original. Anything you see in Death that wasn't in the original broadcast was new material, i.e., produced after the series was over and done with.

One scene that might count as "cut then restored" is Fuyutsuki and Yui's brief reunion outside the AEL. This was in the original storyboards for #21, but didn't actually appear until #21'.

But I digress.

Thanks for the clarification, I guess there's nothing new for me to see until the new movies come out.

Just FYI, not everyone thought EoE was the better ending, or has a definite preference to either ending...I don't.

I think the "Director's Cut" (*does finger thing for emphasis*) releases really confused a lot of people.
