wait...arent female anime girls hated in America for some reason? I never understood why. Bishoujo anime was ment for girls...yet female anime fans tend to hate the female characters from them....

Maybe it's because girls in America are taught that comics are for boys and those that have any interest in them tend to be more tomboyish.

Although I have to admit... the shoujo is flying off the shelves where-ever managa is sold.

Every time I go into Borders and see girls buying manga, it's shoujo half the time. Some of the best sellers (like Fruits Basket) are shoujo.

I guess it's just as odd that a genre for guys (shounen) isn't as popular with guys as shoujo is.

After all, most manga licensed and released is shoujo. I guess that means it's not selling well, huh?

This thread ticks me off. It's just another way for Matt to p*ss fangirls off (please don't misunderstand and think I dislike yuri slashing. I like it too). He didn't need to add the unneccessary fangirl bashing in the first post. I can't believe he hasn't got in trouble by now.

I haven't seen shoujo that compares to things like Berserk and Cowboy beebop. Or Jin Roh and Blue Submarine. Or Lone Wolf and Cub and Crying Freeman.

All have great character development as well as facinating plots and *gasphorrors* actual _action_.

Well Lone Wolf and Cub is a classic isnt it?. I have never been a fan of Cowboy Bebop....i only like Ed....
Berserk....someone showed me some of the manga that isnt licenced yet (or soemthing) and it was kinda funny to me.
Plus i have a stack of manga as high as my desk by my bed to read still.....i am so far behind.

I'd like to know where everyone seems to be getting their "facts" that shonen isn't popular with guys, that shojo isn't popular with girls (I see girls at the bookstores and the cons all the time buying shojo titles, not just yaoi titles), and also WHY IT MATTERS...? I'm a guy, I buy both shojo and shonen titles. And while I know that each has their "intended audience," who cares? Why the need to put both the genres and the people who enjoy them in these little boxes? I read things because they interest me, not because they are "in the category I'm supposed to be reading."

It's slash. There are a lot of yuri-ish scenes between them, but they both end up with guys.

Once the new DVD's are released there while be an ova episode that show's the ending (she could end up with either.... or she could revert back to a boy we don't know for sure) i think the manga's show's the ending though.

In the manga, they explain that it's completely not possible for her to become a boy again. (Haven't read it yet, but I've seen a few discussions.) I doubt the anime would break that part of the story.
