Searched for it in the forums but didn't find anything so I was wondering. Is there an animenation magazine? (I mean like anime insider style.) If not, then why not? I'd be the first person to get a subscription, just name your price.

Well there is (or was...not sure anymore) an Animenation Catalog, which features upcoming anime (that Animenation will stock and sell), and titles already found on this site.

A while back, when I used to get it each year, they also featured fanart by members here (who had won contests and such) and interesting 'behind the scenes' and whatnot from different sources. I think it was about three dollars or so to buy...but....

You'd have to check.

Thanks for the info. That's lame. We need to get that back...anyone think there is something we can do about it?

No one wanted to pay money for a shopping catalouge, that's why.

Its a pity, as I wrote a couple of the section openings for the last catalogue, then it was canceled. :(

I did.

We stopped doing the catalog/magazine a year or two ago. Yes, it was evolving into a catalog with features, fanart, and interviews, but we just didn't see the demand that we need to cover the cost, which includes not only printing but staff to design and manage it. We charged 3.00 per catalog. Any of you skilled desktop publishers want to design it? ;)

Desktop publishers? Hmmm....well....I'm not a 'desktop publisher' or whatnot, but I do take joy in designing things (it is one of my passions...).

:P Maybe you should make a thread about designing the next Animenation catalog (similar to the banner thread) that would allow members to pitch their ideas to you all! Then it would be cheap (*ahem* free) for you to get new ideas (design/layout/featured topics/other to use, while gaining the support/input of your members at the same time.

*shrugs* it could be a good idea anyways ^_^.

Yes, definitely a good idea.

You guys should really put a magazine. For real.

Anime Insider is ok...but Newtype is expensive and I don't get Protoculture Addicts near me anymore. I'd buy it if you guys put it out.

I've got magazine publishing experience (writing, editing, workflow, QuarkXTensions) and would be glad to help out if there's something I do that you need.

That said, I'll be perfectly honest: I'd never buy a print magazine about the anime industry, nor would I even want to receive one for free. If this magazine was sitting on the shelf with a sign that said "Free! Take one!" I can pretty much guarantee that I wouldn't - I'd leave it sitting there next to the "Free AOL" discs.

My problem with any trade magazine I've ever seen is that they're 48-page ads with content that I could find online faster and cheaper (free). So if I saw a pile of anime magazines sitting there with a Free sign sitting on them, the first thought that would pass through my head would be "merchandising crap".

If you were to publish a serious anime aficionados' magazine that had well-researched and useful information that I wanted and couldn't get anywhere else - THEN I might buy it. Otherwise, I literally wouldn't take it for free.

I can do a bunch of stuff, and I work for free.

I have experience, as I used to write for "High Times."
