I was wondering when the "filler arc" starts in Naruto so I can avoid those episodes on when buying them on DVD...

Definitely making the right decision there. Don't let completionism come in the way of bad anime. It's at the end of a major arc so you should be able to feel it coming on.

I'm doing the same myself. Haven't been able to sit through an episode of the show since then.
