Just thought i'd let you all know if you're interested in it.

The product descriptions tout the presence of every available extra, but don't specify if they are GAINAX extras or ADV extras; being "Platinum" pretty much assures that this is purely the ADV product. If so, then opting to buy this when you already own Platinum essentially amounts to buying a silver box, right?

But this doesn't say it's Platinum, it's the PREMIUM boxset.

Ah, I see--the site calls it the "Premium Collection". Note that the box itself says "Platinum". The original "Premium Box" was something different entirely, released in 2002 in limited quantity. (http://animenation.net/forums/showthread.php?t=195577)
In any case, this is basically a European reissuing of the ADV Platinum Collection:
* Packing and artwork never before seen - a true collectors' set for Europe
* Restored and completed episodes, remastered picture and specially-built 5.1 sound
* 4 Directors' cuts of key final episodes
* 8 full episode-length animatics
* Cast and crew commentaries
* Behind-the-scenes documentaries
* 30-page full colour booklet with episode commentaries, behind-the-scenes articles, creature guide, glossary and artwork
The booklet they mention is likely an amalgamation of the small booklets packaged in the individual Platinum DVDs. Other than the "never before seen" artowork and the tin, this sounds like it's basically the same product as the original Platinum release. Assuming one already has Platinum in some form, I don't see any incentive to buy this.
I also find it odd that Googling this product yields only vendors. ADV's U.K. site doesn't seem to contain any mention of a Premium Box Set, and usually when there's a reissue they make a big stink about it. Very strange... <_<

Its a definate. Hugh was talking about it at Amecon.
I believe he also said something about perhaps having UK exclusive stuff not in the US box. Can't remember exactly, since I was ill that day and so my memory's a bit off.

Ah yes:
November - Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Box set. It's big, it's expensive (retail price £99.99) but it is going to have absolutely everything that was on the R1s and more, only around 2000 will be produced, and Hugh will try and get the jacket vouchers included as well but that is not yet confirmed.

Yep, everywhere i've seen the boxset it says that it's got exclusive stuff only for the Eur launch.

Doesn't say what, though, eh? Such a limited release is smart; the risk that they'll quickly become unavailable makes it difficult to wait until the first person gets theirs and reveals just how great (or stupid) the exclusive materials actually are.

I know. I sooo want it, because i've heard such great things about the show. But that's still privey for only 26 shows. That's why i've cancelled GITS 2nd GIG. As it's nearly 4X more than I paid for the 1st GIG.
But it's one of those where you KNOW you won't be able to get it after 6 months or so.
But i've searched around and our local renters really suck ***. Akira is the only Anime I found and that was for PSP UMD to buy not to rent.
So I really don't know where the hell i'm gonna see an ep of this.

£70 is expensive! You should maybe look into maybe buying a cheap region free DVD player that plays NTSC R1 & import DVDs from the US, you can get the Platinum thinpak for around £27, although I don't know about shipping. Still, its cheaper.

The Platinum thinpak lacks all the extras if I remember right.

I imported the australian collection about a month back. Its the individual platinum collection volumes (with all the extras and booklets inc.) in the R1 artbox (but with Oz ratings logos on).
Only cost me £45 delivered, it might even be dual region encoded (R2/4). ;)

Yeah, but unless one has some sort of fetish for animatics, there's nothing to miss. Nothing at all.
