I have a few friends that got killer deals when they bought theirs. And got a good Processor and Mobo for about $200. Is that unrealistic?

Not completely unrealistic
Assuming you want to go with AMD: A DFI Lanparty MOBO (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152) paired with a AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103529) would be a pretty good setup for about $250.

Sounds good. I was searching www.pricewatch.com for some Mobo+Processor+Ram deals. But didn't find any good ones... Though, I'm computer illiterate.

Can you recomend some good Ram to go with it?

Did you ask how they found these killer deals?

Corsair makes some good quality RAM for cheap, (value select in 1Gb (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145505) or 2Gb (two 1Gb modules) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145579)) If you're willing to pay more for high performance RAM, Corsair's XMS series is really good (1Gb (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145488) or 2Gb (two 1Gb modules) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145587) ).

For a mobo - Asus P5W DH Deluxe
CPU - I've been reading about the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, and it sounds pretty good. I just need a job and patience, haha. A little more reasonable? Athlon 64 X2 4800+
Some good sites

Actually, the same website. Newegg.
I have no idea what things will go together and such. So I pretty much needed to con someone into telling me it. :\ As said friends don't live by me.
Thanks guys. I owe ya' a few.

I laugh at that. Slashdot article rating some cheaper cards to be as good as the expensive ones (http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/15/1159203). Pretty much planning on something like this for my next computer.
