Hi, i'm new to drawing anime, been doing it about a month now, and it always takes ages to colour and shade my work. I'm not sure if it's just me, or if there are any other programmes to do it on, but some help on this subject would be helpful no matter what it is. Thanks

- Photoshop is as fast as anything else is out there.... if you don't have a tablet, generally speaking, coloring will take longer.
The more time you're able to put into colors, the faster you'll get, because you'll develop your own shortcuts. But, if you want some assistance, try looking up some tutorials! www.deviantart.com has some good ones, and they're also some great tutorials at www.mangarevolution.com.
It's hard to say anything more without seeing your art, so hope you can find something that helps between those 2 places!

Yup, yup. Also, don't try those short cuts where it's just a click of a button and BOOM! Instant sky or grass or something. I used to use the dodge/burn tool alot for shading, but looking back, I think just painting your own shading tones and all looks much better. When you use certain short cuts, the job looks rushed and sloppy...(aw, I feel mean for saying that) Like SAB-CA said, working it out, you'll find your own shortcuts, and in addition, they look much better.
If any of that made sense. >_<

well if you're coloring the conventional way with layers and all that it will always take some amount of time
now a tablet is a pad that allows you to draw straight to the computer and it works well with programs such as Photoshop and Painter
wacom (http://wacom.com/index2.cfm) is the brand of choice for tablets, it also comes with painter classic which you can upgrade to a full version of painter
i prefer tablets sized 6x8 but you can go higher than that, i do not recommend that you go below that size
if you're interested in a graphics tablet i suggest you only do so if you're serious about drawing/coloring digitally as it will take some time getting used to (plus they're expensive)
i've only ever used 2 programs to color but they're both good
- painter (http://apps.corel.com/painterix/home/index.html)
- photoshop (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/)
don't get these if you're not serious, again they're quite expensive (unless you get the education edition)
also the painter classic program that comes bundled with the wacom tablets will work well enough it just doesn't have the useful options that the full version has
getting a tablet will certainly make coloring easier it will also gives you the option to color as if you are painting rather than the traditional layer method, but the only way to really get faster and better at coloring is through practice
given that you're new to drawing i suggest you practice for awhile and mess around with that you have with a mouse, if you're serious about going into digital drawing then go ahead and get a tablet
even after getting a tablet i suggest you still keep your sketchpad as your lines will always be much better scanned than drawn digitally

It's a lot harder coloring on photoshop or any other computer program for the matter unlike, as SAB said, you have a tablet. And still the shading and everything takes time, but the good thing is, once you master it, it really pays off, and makes ANYTHING look good.
