So I was thinking about joining Gaia Online recently. But from what I heared it totally sucks your life away like a blood deprived vampire. Sure you can customize your little avatar out till no end but how much time must be invested to do so? Does any one in here have a Gaia account or some advice. It would be greatly appreciated.

To me, it's just another internet forum.

Well that's very true. But standard internet forums are enough to suck you in, Gaia seems like a black hole.

to me, its a very sucky and pointless internet forum... its just as bad as a rabid MMORPG, but theres not RPG to the MMO -.-;

exactly. i could be playing and ACTUAL MMORPG and getting acctual things done on there than wasting even faker money on little items that wont do me no fecking good. that MMO being FFXI or possibly Guild Wars >:3
i mean, at least with the REAL expensive items i'd get +15 HP or some other stat added to, instead of "oh thats so cute! CAN I BUY IT FROM YOU?!"

Gaia is probably the worst forum on the internet (With Gamefaqs and IGN following closely). When you have something like the gold system, people post random and pointless crap just so they can buy butterfly wings for their avatar. Going to a forum on the internet isn't about making a cool avatar, or getting a high post count.

I carefully ignore it now, though it was slightly better a few years ago.
Do not, I repeat, do not sign up there. There are better things to do with your time.

I joined it a long time ago. I got bored with it. You get "money" for doing things, and then you can "buy" "things". In the end, it's really not worth your time. That forum has all the worst things from any given forum:
1) a billion n00bs who can't spell
2) emo kids (I can't begin to count all the goth-esque avatars)
3) Double posting
4) Signatures with big huge pictures in them and/or 20 lines of large print text.
It's not a forum, it's an eyesore.

As a 4channer, I must say that Gaia Online is made of failure and AIDS. Do not let yourself be tempted to join those pre-pubescent idiots.

Wow everybody thanks for the advice. I think I have made a decision.
And about number 2, I was just browsing the threads there and I did notice a lot of emo/goth avatars now that you mention that. I hate emo's. This emo chick asked me out one time in high scool last year, it scared me.

Gaia Online is worse than Neopets, and that's saying something.
These sites are proof that humankind no longer cares for social (face-to-face) interaction. What a sad, lamentable world we live in.

Great decision by not signing up there! I wasn't that impressed with Gaia either. I think that the meaningless crap that these people are posting about is ridiculous and a waste of time.

If you join, only join to whip those Dub-watching-peach fuzz no gotten-pre ttens into shape. Those forums are horrible. I would only become a member to whip some shape into all of them, and teach them what for on internet forums.

Lol, I saw a lot of that when I was browsing the threads. This one guy posted about how he was going to leave the site for good because he had to get on with his life and the first thing people posted wasn't, "Oh I'll miss you" but rather, "Give me all your stuff before you leave!!!". It's nice to know that everyone cares so much for eachother over there. Unlike our little family here at Anime Nation :) .

The way I see it, there are so many users it's like you'll be lucky to see another one of someone's posts in the next thread. Too many to actually get to know everyone. I signed up once upon a time, three years ago and it was uninteresting.

Their forum colors are too bright and gay. I know this one dude that posts on the site and he's 37. I'm trying to get him off that path. Seem's to be working.
