So you got a 'plug and play' thingy. You plug it in, the lights flash, then nothing happens.
question:
is it one of those USB things or Serial port things?

If it's a ps2 connecting keyboard.... then... it should just work.
Plug it in to the keyboard connector, restart. The keyboard should be recognized and work. Unless... did you turn off the ps2 port in your system BIOS or something?

Search for some drivers, although I've never heard of driver issues with generic keyboards. You can pick up a keyboard for like $8 or so, or find a neighbor with 2 computers who will let you borrow one for a day?

Update: It's now working, well, except the space bar. Better than nothing.
I'd still like some sort of answer, ya know, for next month when it happens again.

It might just be a crappy keyboard...

Well. I've tried four different ones. Maybe I should stop accidently dumping soda on them!

Didn't you have this problem before?

Once every other month. Same situation, soda + keyboard = it not working then eventually working with some minor defects.
For example, while typing this, my keyboard randomly started doing inifnite X's, as if THE INVISIBLE MAN was holding it down. And the whole "no space bar" thing

My keyboard used to do that too. You have sticky buttons. Try removing the button and cleaning it out a little.

Because I have a keyboard that I actually like the feel of, I clean it on a regular basis, rather than replacing it. Although I appreciate that I'm taking a risk by doing it in this way, I've usually found that it's perfectly OK to get it wet, as long as I allow it to dry overnight before using it again.

I use a Model M with reversed keycaps. Colorcoded the keys and use it instead of the laptop keyboard due to feedback issues. Things are built like tanks.

One of these days I'm gonna pick me up an old Model M. They really are the best keyboards ever made, and they last literally for ever. Unfortunately, they command a rather high price these days. There's a company that bought the technology, and are making new Model M type keyboards, but I believe it's something in the region of 70 dollars for their standard model. I've yet to be able to justify that kind of a price. The one I use is nothing special, it just happens to be slightly less horrendous than the majority of modern keyboards.

The original production date is 1971.

So as you can tell by the suspiciously low amount of ideon posts it died again, kinda. It tells me I need a function driver, and google has been totally worthless. The only softwear on the logitech site for my model is pretty useless too!
