37 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Get ready for a segregated "Survivor." Race will matter on the upcoming season of the CBS show as contestants will be divided into four tribes by ethnicity. That means blacks, whites, Latinos and Asians in separate groups.

The announcement was made on CBS' Early Show. Host Jeff Probst says the idea "actually came from the criticism that 'Survivor' was not ethnically diverse enough." He says the twist fits in perfectly with what "Survivor" does, saying the show is "a social experiment. And this is adding another layer to that experiment." Probst says contestants had mixed reactions to the racial divisions.

This time the new Survivors are stranded on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. The castaways include a police officer, a heavy metal guitarist, an attorney and a nail salon manager. The new season of Survivor debuts September 14th.

A few comments:

1) How many seasons do you think it will take before the network decides to air a Survivor series between Christians, Jews and Muslims? That would quintuple their ratings overnight.

2) If one game of "Survivor: The Holy Land" would be enough to resolve international disputes in that region, I'd actually advocate it.

3) Why don't they ever host Survivor in a place where it's difficult to survive, like Antarctica? Heck, I'd like to see most of these idiots just try to make it through a Maine winter. "Survivor: Allagash Falls, ME". Most of them wouldn't make it to Thanksgiving.

yeah the asians rocked episode one, wow. that cai boi guy is very interesting, but all of his chattering will probably get his butt voted off first chance the team has to do counsel. it's a shame.

i also want to comment on why the black team didnt do so well. some say that it's because of weak selection, like have a big flabby guy, three girls, and only one fit guy. but clearly the first challenge didnt have much to do with strength, and they lost because they couldnt get that boat together. their main problems are internal politics. that big dude tried to take charge at the start and boss everyone around, but then he couldnt even start a fire for them. i thought that was kind of funny. anyway with him being voted off now they might do a lot better. those remaining girls are pretty fit.

the ozzy guy on the hispanic team will probably go really far. he seems like a resourceful guy.

as for the white team, the producers clearly didn't choose the best "specimens." i assume it would just look bad for the network if whitey dominated everything. in any case you got one fit guy, three airhead girls, and a chicken thief. theyre a funny bunch though.

i dont watch much tv but wanted to see this for the racial hoopla. in all it was enjoyable, better than most stuff on tv.

Its more than ever just going to be a competition between Asians and whites. Black people and hispanic people can never work together. We're just too stupid and greedy when it comes to competition. Our ambition gets the better of us.

Plus, me and a friend tiered this show already and oddly enough 3(Brad is universal but still a part of the Asian group) Asian's made the top tier. Cao Boi just looks crazy enough to eat them all. He CAN take it, but Kim is a fighter. A lot more than athletic than Caveman Cao. And Brad? He excels at nearly everything. He's God Tier if anything. He looks both Asian AND white from different angles in various photos me and my friend saw. He can easily defect to the white man's team with ease.

i watched a preview of it, and it seemed ienresting. They asked a bunch of people on the streets, and most of them said it was retarded, because most of the people they asked were retarded themselves. This one guy had a good point though. "if you want to survive, stick with your own race" I'm sure the term "uncle tom" will be used atleast 15 times in the episodes after they merge.
If they do it right, it could be pretty smart.

The asians stand a good chance of wining challenges, simply because they are the most physicaly fit out of all of the groups. But, on the "social" side of the game, they will be the weakest. The have a self absorbed school teacher, the stereotype "i am good at EVERYTHING asian, the steretype "old asian, that knows EVERYTHING, and has some kind of quip, or smart saying for every situation, and then a Gay fasion designer.....so typical.....

The Spanish people have some pretty "americanized" hispanic people. None of them are "dirty forigner types", they all speak good english. There is going be the "latin temperment" coming in to play i'm sure. The no-nosense stance on everything will piss alot of people off at the merge.

The Black group has pretty much all normal people on there. they dont have any stereotype "lemme smoke some rawks, den shoot up da police" black people. So they should far pretty well on the social aspect.

The white popele have the ditzy blonde bimbo, the "i dont give a f*ck about anything" white guy, and i think some old lady (i forget), and some regualr white guy.

it's going to be intesting to see how it is done.

im asian so of course im rooting for our team, but i wouldnt count out the other teams yet.

the black squad got rid of their weakest link. that fat dude was just too bossy. now if those two girls would stop going off together and act as a team then the squad could really get going. everyone left is lean and fit.

asians still kicking butt. they won the challenge again. i think the white team might have tied them for first place on instant replay. the black team is doing better, getting third place and immunity. they also managed to get a nice fire going. as for the hispanic team, they purposefully lost the challenge so that they could get rid of billy. i'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but suddenly, cook island is now 500 lbs lighter after 2 episodes. lol.

Well, I've only seen the first episode on OnDemand, so here goes Midoriko's thoughts, thus far:

1) White Team. Nothing special about 'em. Not especially good, not especially bad. Average. They seem like the same ol' group of Caucasians on the other fifty reality shows on T.V. The Jocky "Hot" guy; the whiney and/or bubbly Sorority-esque chick; the boring guy that no one gives a hoot about; the other chick that's of average intelligence (maybe smarter) that still enjoys the Party; and the "Alternative" chick (the "non-Mainstreamer." Usually, no one cares about her, either). They have a chance of winning this. I mean, there have been like a gazillion other persons "exactly" like them that have won stuff and/or junk like this before.

2) Black Team. Wow! They were a hot mess. Seriously. Um, I was a wee bit extremely digusted, because I remember (no, KNOW) how frustrating it is to work with unorganized, uncooperative morons.. The Challenge and the Building of the "Shelter," in my opinion, exposes their inability to work effectively as a team. Um, they sent the old nerdy white guy into Exile. Um, why? 'Cause he "stole" the Asians' chicken (He probably did it purposely, though. He looks like the type)? I mean, What the Hell is that?!!! I mean, I'd really like to understand the reasoning behind that decision? I mean, for Pete's Sake, there's money involved here? Damn! Eliminate, the really cute Latino guy with the curly hair, or the other slim Latino guy, or that adorable Asian Fashion Designer, or the the jocky Caucasian! Come on, you know nothing about these people, and this a "Survival Challenge," so wouldn't it be wise to use your Gosh Darned eyes (and brains) and choose the most Athletic-looking dudes (maybe chicks)?!! Darn It, look at Cao Boi! An old In-Shape dude with long unruly hair and a long, gray-speckled beard. Those guys are like the strongest and wisest things ever! Get rid of him, first! And, even worse, the chicks just stood back and let the dudes choose whom to eliminate!!! This isn't Midoriko being all "Female Power" or whatever, but really, what have these dudes done to prove themselves of being worthy to make such a decision? If they had previously displayed some kind of helpful knowledge/skills or somethin', I "maybe" could understand, but the fact is that they HADN'T. And finally, they turned the Elimination into a "Girl vs. Boy" thing. Um, what the Hell is that?!! There's money at stake here you flippin' idiots! As a "group," men and women, get together and eliminate your Weakest Link. *Sigh* On the Plus Side, their Weakest Link was eliminated. I'm not going to say Everything was like his fault, but that bastard was lazy, and he talked out of his *** a lot. Maybe they'll get it together. Maybe. They need to do something about that team work.

3) Asian Team. Great Team Effort! They work well together. Let's see, they're "Effective." Other than that, they're just the blandest things on the block (this DOES NOT include Cao Boi). I mean, honestly, if they didn't seem to work SO WELL as a team, I probably could've easily forgotten that there was an Asian team. Now, Cao Boi, he is the Wild Card. Just the greatest thing since Squeezable Jelly! Okay, maybe not, but he is really cool. And, there seems like there could potentially be an issue between Cao Boi and the rest of the group. Cao Boi seems to have no problems with laughing at himself and laughing at the Stereotypes, and the Others? Well, they seem REALLY touchy. Well, I find stereotypical jokes told for the sake of Humour or Satire pretty entertaining, but at the same time, I can understand how it may be annoying sometimes. Still, when people get so uptight about stuff like this, it makes me wonder if they're thinking: "Please, I'm trying to be 'normal.' Don't bring my differences to the attention of others." And, with those people the blending is more like disappearing. Inadvertantly placing one's self in the Background. On the other hand, if you're constantly bombarded with Racism, I don't think anyone can blame you for being "touchy."

4) The Hispanic/Latino Team. They seem okay. Of course, they need to get rid of their "Weak Link." That fat, Heavy Metal Dominican guy. He's sorta like that guy on the Black Team that got eliminated. He talks about having all of this "Knowledge" and Experience, but when it's time to deliver, he fails BIG TIME.

Overall, the Asians seem to have the best team work, so I can totally see them winning this thing. The Latino guys (girls/guys) seem pretty fit, so if they get rid of that big Fat Phony, they'll have a chance, as well. The Whites should thank the blacks for like temporarily getting rid of the man that appears to be their Weakest link. Then again, I can totally see a few members of the White Team clashing in the Future. The Blacks? Well, their weakest is gone, but their real problem is the lack of teamwork/communication. If they can work together, they may stand a chance. And, that's my Two Cents!
