Didn't the original director die? I only seen Saw II, and I didn't like it all that much, I just found it boring heh, I don't like many horror movies though

Saw is good...I'll go see III if this is legit news, but See no Evil was 10x better than Saw IMO.

Never saw it.

Besides I heard Hostel was better than Saw, and I laughed my *** off at just how bad, un-scary and un-gorey it was.

I'll see SNE when it hits T.V here, in about a years time.

It looked ok, but how many movies with wrestlers in are actually good?

Despite Kane being an awesome wrestler.

New horror movies are lacking nowdays. They can never beat the classics.

In what? Lame monsters that weren't even scary back then?

Besides, Saw isn't a horror, it's a pyschological **** with your mind thriller.

Half the horror movies I'm thinking of that are better than everything made today don't have monsters in it.

Goerge A Romero Trilogy.(No Land.)
Friday the 13th.
Evil Dead Trilogy.
Dead Alive.
Holloween.

But yes. Saw was decent.

Ouch

The first Saw mvoies were alright to me, entertaining but not scary, I think it may be because I knew the endings to bot beforehand, not on purpose though. I haven't been scared by a film in a long time.

I just watch The Hills Have Eyes Remake Unrated recently and while that didnt scary me, but the trailer scene was pretty sick. One thing that I found worked well was that there was this huge build up of tension during the first half of the movie and then it was finally released with the humans getting their revenge which was so satisfying after the terrible things that happened to them.

But the ending annoyed me in that after all that happened to them, they should have been left with some kind of glimmer of hope instead of just them beign watched, like another gun or something.

In my opinion, horror movie writing in the US peaked in the 70's. It started going downhill with the iconic 'laugh slashers' like Freddy Kreuger. Except for a few titles, it never quite redeemed itself.

Besides, Saw isn't a horror, it's a pyschological **** with your mind thriller.
The premise behind Saw (the first one) was mildly interesting, but the writing and execution of the film was abysmal. Plotwise, it violated its own premise (the only real no-no in scifi/horror) and was so bad that I didn't think they could possibly make a sequel - even in Hollywood. My first reaction, upon hearing that there was GOING to be a sequel was "How did they ever get anyone to fund it? Did they not see the first one?"

Psychological? It's not any more than a low-grade cop show. The oversimplified pop-psychology of CSI is more credible, and that's a sad statement. A mind-****? Give me a break. Go see Jacob's Ladder before you misuse that term again. A thriller? The characters were cutouts, and the plot was so mechanical and heavy-handed I was yawning. It's like a Scooby-Doo mystery - a bunch of red herrings, they pull the mask off the guy at the end. Ooo. How thrilling. If he'd have said "I'd have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!" it would have been complete.

I love horror movies. It's a shame so few people know how to make 'em these days.

You know, all that's left is for them to do Saw III - IN 3-D!! That would pretty much remove the last shred of dignity that anyone involved with the movie had left.

Dawn of the Dead. '78 is the best movie/horror movie ever.

/End thread.

PS: Dang. I'm off topic.

Snip.

I agree with the majority of your analysis of saw but if you have not done so already you owe it to yourself to see Saw 2; it is a vast improvement over the original. By far the best horror film I have ever seen is "Rings," Audition would be my second favorite.

My best friend love the Saw series, I found them mildly amusing. I'll probably end up getting dragged to the theater whether I want to watch it or not.

Meh, I don't even go by other peoples reviews anymore. I practically NEVER agree with them. Seems like this review kept that tradition alive.

I'll catch this when it hits.
Still liked the first one over the second. II just seemed to focus more on shock value, unlike one which had a good blend of suspense and creepiness added to it. Hopefully III will return to that formula.

I loved Saw 1 and 2 was better. I strongly dissagre with everything you said Lesser.

I also haven't seen a movie yet which has scared me. I've been scared by 3 games though. Resi 1 back in the day when I was about 10. Silent 1, when I was 12-ish (I played Resi quite late in it's launch, so that's why it's only a 2 year gap) and Condemned. Man that game is scary.
