Several years ago ADV commissioned Paul Champagne to create a limited edition metal boxset for the Evangelion series. I am lucky enough to have one such box and am curious if anyone knows what it's worth?

I'd buy it........unfortunately my bid would consist of a button and sincire gratitude.

At a run of 2000 units, each having a retail value of $48.99 circa their release in 2002, I actually wouldn't guess a whole lot; I guess we'd find out whenever a fan decided to auction it off, which will probably never happen...

Champagne's website rather curiously states that the "First Production" has sold out.

I'm debating about auctioning mine off since I'm getting married next year and need to start selling extra things for $$$. I'd hate to sell it but if I got enough for it ($100+) then I'd consider.

Considering it seems you'd be setting precedent, you'll likely get much more than that, despite how much the thing might actually be worth.

How do you figure? Do you think the metal box is that interesting for a collector?

I see myself as a collector of Evangelion rarities, owning several items that were on even lower runs than the Paul Champagne Box. However that sort of doesnt say much about your item. What I mean to say is, from an adamant collector's opinion, I feel that the PC box is not worth much. Not because 2000 is a high number, but because the set is kind of defunct.

Think about it, would you sell it with the original ADV DVD Eva releases? They are outdated and comparitively poor quality. Plus, would the Platinum releases fit in it? If no (which I imagine is the case) what is the purpose in owning the box? Sure, you could put whatever other DVDs in there, then its only remaining novelty is its limited nature. But limited-ness is somewhat irrelevant in this case - I mean, what does Paul Champagne have to do with Evangelion? Absolutely nothing. So whats the point in owning a (reletively) 3rd party limited edition useless collectable?

As such, I would price the empty box at about $40-50. Dont sell it filled (or for any more money filled), because the releases that fit in it are outdated, and any fan who wants the box would possibly NOT buy it with the useless DVDs if it cost more, only souring the deal. That box was certainly cool at its time, but its time has long passed. Sorry for the bad evaluation, but I cant find a justification for why this would be worth spending any considerable amount of money on.

^The 7 Eva Platinum DVDs fit perfectly in the PC box (the slipcovers make up for the missing DVD). I can take a picture of it if you'd like...

Could you? It would be great to see how snuggly it fits.

Im actually interested in that myself. If it's TOO snug, it would mess up the slipcases (which are already largely "accident prone")

heh, thats why I leave mine in their shrinkwrap and exacto knife the opening

Ask and you shall recieve.

First, just a rough display at how close the Platinum and PC box are as far as width is concerned.

And 2 shots of the other side of the Platinum DVDs in the PC box, next to the Platinum box with the original DVDs in them.

The pictures don't really do justice to how pretty the Platinum DVDs look in the PC box. It looks VERY nice.

Let me know if you would like any alternate angles or additional pictures and I'll see what I can do.

Does he still make them (even if it's not on his website) however? Because if so then that may have a lot of impact on the price of it.

That does look sexy though. :)

I just have to say, Paul Champagne, such a champion name.

Plus the box is nice too, a bit pricey I'd think though.

He doesn't make them anymore. It was something he was commissioned by ADV to do.

The boxes are pricey because they're not only expensive to produce, ADV still needed to make a profit themselves.

By the way Dan, even though the PC box was designed to hold the original 8 NGE dvd's, that's almost the same width as 7 dvd's in slipcases, so the box can be used for the individual Platinum versions as well (edit: as Buicovo illustrated apparently; I just saw the pic) ;)

Hmm, I thought I posted some follow up questions, but I guess I didnt.

Buicovo, how do those metal flaps affect the vol.1 and 7 slipcovers? (if at all). Those covers are VERY prone to damage, and it looks like a snug, but appropriate fit.

So, I would reevaluate the metal box with the Platinum releases at about $110-150, which is about 40-50 for the box, and 70-100 for the 7 DVD set. But thats just my estimate, and you know how fickle ebay can be. If you're lucky to find 2 people who really want it, it could run higher.

SonRyu, howdy! I actually have an off topic question for you. I really loved your Naruto GNT:3 revision GC insert design, thanks again for sending it to me. But I was curious if you ever made one for GNT: 4?

By the time I get around to it GNT5 will probably be out -_-;

There is a slight indention on my volume 1 that runs about 1 inch along the bottom, not very noticable but it is there. Its at the very back corner where the verticle flaps along the back of the box meet the shorter ones that run along the edges. It makes sense that the most pressure would be along that point.

Seeing as how you are obviously a collector, I would not recommend putting the platinum DVDs with the slipcovers in the PC box, because while the damage is minimal...it is there. I just have my original DVDs in the PC box, as it still looks good.
