Ok i got a Airlink101 wireless router and it was working fine at first but it didnt have a WEP key thing, my brother went to 192.168.1.1 and all that and he tried to put a password right, usually WEP keys are like 25-6 letters right? he made the WEP his name EX: "jared97" or "billy45" <--that much letters and two numbers at the end. Now anybody cant just steel your internet but they need the WEP key, so i dont kno why the password we put isnt workin. Anyone have any ideas how to just take out the WEP and let neighbors ect use it? i dont really care i kno what could happen. So is there a way i can change the WEP or take it out? and if i lose the WEP key where can i get it again? k thanks please help

You'll most likely be able to change it from your router settings (going to 192.168.1.1), unless if you forgot what it was. If you can't do it from there, your router might have a reset button some where on it.

To set the WEP key just go into your router configuration and either generate a key (if there is the option to do so) or type out a very long WEP until you run out of spaces to type in. I've never tried a WEP that wasnt the full length, but I dont think that would work. My current WEP is using 128bit encryption and is 26 characters long. Then you'll have to setup that WEP key in the connection options of the computer that is linked wirelessly.

I recommend NOT using WEP at all, but rather a MAC Address filter, if your router allows it.
LMK if you want more info.

You don't want to take the WEP out(unless you replace it as said above), otherwise your connection will run into other peoples and bother them. Not to mention your internet will be slowed down if you do that.
All I did was set an encryption key by clicking "open network connections" which can be found by right clicking the connection icon on the toolbar, then right clicking on my wireless network to select "properties". Once "properties" came up I clicked the "wireless network" tab at the top and clicked on my connection. Then clicked "properties" and then you can see your WEP.
I'm using windows XP and only have one wireless network.
