I have it and so far it isnt to bad. Not hard by any streach of the imagination but a good game to just sit down and play. For some reason I kind of enjoy the simplicity. It does seem more like an interactive movie then a video game at times though.

I'm interested in playing it, but I'm not paying $50 for it. I'm going to rent it at some point.

I just bought the game, it isnt as good as I thought it would be. And they forgot to leave in teh Japanese VAs. The only English Voice I really think fits a character is Reeve

From what I've heard, the game is really bad. Some have complained that the story makes it suck, while some complain that it's the gameplay.

It reminds me of Gungrave, it's simple, but I think it's pretty fun. It's not the best, but it's alright

It's interesting but I won't pay the game for $50. I will wait for the price is lower than $30.

You'll always have the critics.

The game "reviewers" or whatever of today also seem very critical of games. I dont know if I ever read reviews, but I havent in a long while and I definitely won't ever again, I make my own judgements of games. Not to say I dont agree with you guys, I also agree with waiting until the price goes down, but I would expect people who like Vincent a lot to buy it right away (my brother *ahem*).

Why would people buy a game with their favorite character in it? I've always thought that was a dumb reason to buy a game, regardless of the game's quality.

Also, I should be renting the game sometime this week so I'll see what all the hype is for myself.

Say what you want, the gameplay is mediocre at best. And if that's not a good reason for a "game" to get a bad review, then I don't know what is.

Great movies and graphics are certainly appreciated, but make sure there's something fun there first. This one waned on me pretty quickly. The gameplay emphasis is on targeting but the camera's pretty jerky, so I have no idea how the very concept passed through Q&A at S-E. You're definitely doing the right thing by waiting to get the game for $20. I played through the entire first level, which was like 45 minutes long or something, and just plain have no desire to continue. I really find it hard to care.

I want to wait for a price drop too. I want to rent the game first and see if I really do or don't like it, but of course the game is rented out at my local video store. I've had the feeling that DoC at its core is more movie-like and not so much gameplay. It makes sense coming from SE.

Bad camera angles, urk. All the more reason I'd want to wait for a price drop. I don't want to pay $50 for nausea-inducing dizziness. How am I supposed to enjoy the game while I'm feeling sick? Unlikely. How is the camera bad? Does it swivel around a lot when you move Vincent? Does it jerk most of the time? When does jerking happen? Jerking in games is horrible and I can't stand it.

A shooter with a bad camera? That's not looking too good.

MightyDustLoop
August 29th, 2006, 12:34 PM
You control the angles. But in small areas, it doesn't work well. And in large areas, you often have to actually get shot to even know there are baddies around. So that's your cue to sweep the area with the camera sometimes. And of course, if you feel the need to sweep the camera around full time to try to catch any bad guys before they get a shot in, well, good luck trying to move your character in any sort of direction.

It's not too bad. You can just mash buttons and be fine. You gain experience even when dying so I doubt anyone'll get stuck. But there's no feeling of precision in the game. It feels like a less precise FPS. They wanted you to be able to see your ultra cool character, and that lowers your range of vision even moreso than a normal FPS, so they dumbed down any precision for a targeting system and there you have it. Fun for a few minutes but may get pretty repetitive pretty fast.

I'm gonna rent this game first before buying it to see what it is like cause I read many reviews and I'm not sure if its worth the risk of buying it because the reviews say it is a bad game.

Bluemizu
August 30th, 2006, 03:44 PM
Button-mashing with no precision; that tells me this game is a winner. <_< Still, I'm willing to give it a shot (ha!), more out of curiosity than anything. I haven't been on the fence so much for a game before.

I heard that it's better to stay in the third-person perspective because you can tell if some is shooting at you. Is that true? I also read that there's a real-time weapon switch; does this get used a lot? I mean, do you feel the need to switch weapons from time to time, or do you just stick with the default weapon?

If gameplay isn't the best thing evar, are the cinematics phenomenal? Do the visuals look like FF7AC graphics? I saw the commercial for the game and the graphics looked like AC quality.

Didn't say I agreed with the reviews or whatever, I've never even played this game. I was just using this as an excuse to say that I would never let game reviews influence me in buying a game, and don't think that anyone else should either really.

Is this game really worth buying? It it worthy of the VII name,or a money effert?

MightyDustLoop

I don't think many people really looked at this as the next incarnation of FFVII. After all, it's a different genre altogether. But let's just say it doesn't do for the action/shooting genre anywhere near what FF7 did for the RPG genre. And this is coming from someone very skeptical about FF7's originality in general.

But in terms of a cinematic experience, the graphics and presentation are indeed upper tier. It would mean a lot more if they built it off solid gameplay, but it's not so bad it can't be enjoyable. Just gotta try it and see if you have a tolerance for it.

I flipped through the DoC strategy guide today and saw that Vincent can pick up "memories". Are watching these memories like those Jecht spheres in FFX where after you find one you can see a little video clip right there? Or do you have to wait until after the game is finished in order to see the scenes in the movie viewer?

Speaking of the movie viewer, does it show only these "memories" clips or are the CG sequences throughout the game available for viewing too?

Yea, Xplay gave the game a 2/5. They said the camera was horrible and that there was too many cutscenes and that you couldn't even pass boss fights without some sort of cutscene coming up. They also called it a cheap and very bad Devil May Cry ripoff...sera... Still anxious to see what Gackt looks like in the game, haha..

The game doesn't even look good in the commercials. That says something to me right there. Drakengard was gawdawful, but looked good enough in the commercial for me to want it.

The game looks like a clone of psi-ops without the cool powers. Squeenix has burned me before with non-RPG titles. The only good non-rpg title I've enjoyed was Einhander, and maybe Threads of Fate, but that game has RPG elements. I enjoyed Ehrgeiz, though I concede it wasn't a good game.

I'm sorry, I was being vague. I meant it doesn't look good in terms of gameplay. In the commercial, Vincent was basically doing the same strafing/shooting motion in three different scenes. Graphically, the game looks amazing. Squaresoft's non RPG games may skimp on the gameplay, but none of their games skimp on the graphics. But if I wanted pretty graphics, I'd buy an Xbox360 and play Project Gotham 3, or any one of those pretty looking games.

Doesn't look good? In terms of graphics, the game's a masterpiece. In terms of gameplay, it doesn't look engrossing at all.

Well, I got my hands on a rental of DoC. I unfortunately have to agree with the reviews that this game isn't quite up to the standards of a shooter. I think my biggest issue is having to control the camera all the time! There's nothing I hate more in an action game than when I'm fighting a lot of enemies and I have to swivel the camera around just to see them. I don't mind doing it once in a while, but in DoC if I don't continually swing the camera around I'll get shot. Manual camera movement usually gets me dizzy, but fortunately, this game doesn't do that. It's kind of sad when moving the camera around is considered a gameplay feature.

On the other hand, the cinematics are incredible. Vincent's cloak looks cool. The ambience is especially gorgeous. I found it surreal when at the start of the game Vincent is sitting on a bed... and the TV is on. A guy like him watching TV seems humorous to me. :)

So, it's a rental... or not.

I just beat the game on normal mode, let me say it was way too easy. so I'm going to try it on hard. It is definitly made for first person shooter noobs If you are good at shooter games this game will not be a challenge.

well i bought ffVII DoC full price and i knew it wasnt too good but its still a ff series , and its a nice try from Square enix ... let say its was just a '' quick-game-they-did-so-we-can-wait-for-ffxii'' but i still think its a valuable item to add to any ff collection
but wait for a drop price actually and the game is pretty short for the main story ( lot of secret stage)

The sad thing about it is the fact that the standalone DoC cellphone game is better.

I'm tempted to check it out just for the plot and visual design, but I did that with Enter the Matrix, and, as you may guess, regret doing so to this day.

Rented the game and for the simple fact that it is part of FFVII universe I loved it. It was nice to see Vincent without all of that damned trouble of going through the stupid ShinRa Manshon )Sp?) and everything. i will say that it the graphics are beautiful and that seeing the other characters cameos are nice. However..... Could they have chosen a couple of the worst characters to have the biggest cameos???? Yep.... Yuffie and Cat Seith have the largest Cameos in the game with the exception of the main character. Didn't get a chance to play through the first level cause had too much stuff to do. Still I plan on getting it and putting it next to my PSX FFVII and AC where I will pull it down and watch from time to time.

I enjoyed playing this game it isn't bad. I think its underrated cause I thought the store was pretty cool to learn more about vincent rather then always focusing all on cloud.

I just started the game (along with FFXII) and I like it alot. I always start with hard mode. (a habit in me). And it was pretty hard getting started with new commands and the gun thing... But now I get it.

durge was the biggest peice of crap since Advent Children. tHe game is so uninteractive and has no imagination to it. You runn down a a pathway on a more or less one level plane shooting mindless enemies with no effort to expend at all.
