As you can see there.

Evangelion has 7 Platinum discs, Genesis Reborn DC and Resurection DC, 8 collection discs (which are also in a big boxset) and 3 movies.

So I was wondering, are the Platinum and DC's, the same 8 as the collection discs? But better (like digitally remastered and the likes).

Or is everything seperate?

Because if so, then E seems even more expensive than I first thought.

Coming close to $445 for the full thing.

Thanks in advance :)

Collection is the Video & LD versions (= Official Japanese Designation) of #01 ~ #20 and the On Air versions of #21 ~ #26.

The "DC"s are the Video & LD versions of #21~#26 (the VLDs for #21 ~ #24 are special expanded versions that receive primes, e.g. #21', and are sometimes called the New Production Cut episodes), along with including the OAs for #21 ~ #24.

Platinum is equivalent to the series' Renewal (= remastered) release in Japan, minus the movies.

Er, what?

Sorry i'm not a very technicle guy at all, you really need to be simple with me, lol.

I think what you're saying is, if I were to get them, get collection 1-6, then the DC's instead of 7 and 8.

And that i'd also need to get the 6 Platinums and the 3 movies.

Anywhere near?

For the series there's no point messing about - the answer is "Platinum thin-pack"; then if you're a serious completist, Resurrection for the Reiquarium scene with interesting overlays in 23' (not present in platinum's 23").

Of the movies, D&R being clips and the first 20-odd minutes of EoE, is entirely optional; but as manga are bundling the two together these days, might as well get the pair.

Dude we don't have the PTP here in the U.K, so you're gonna have to name volumes, sorry, I know it sucks, but that's Great *laughs* Britain.

With the $ approaching 50p, this is the time to buy from the States - even with VAT and handling, it's cheaper than Platinum 1-7 at ~£20 a pop.

Yep, well from that place it's £14 a pop.

Also, I didn't realise that you were in the U.K too, althought I must be truthful and admit that i've never heard of cambs, unless it's a shortening for something like Cambridge or Cambrishire.

Thanks for the info though :)

I was just listing what ADV's three main DVD releases include (in my auto-pilot sort of way). But I guess one would need to have a basic knowledge of the Japanese releases (OA, Video & LD, NPC, Renewal...) for the breakdown to make actual sense. :P

Technically, if you're a completist, you get all of them. But most people don't care that much.

I'm a bit curious...has anyone here just bought the original releases and not bothered with the Platinum/etc.?

The first set of NGE I could find was the Thinpak, so I never bothered with anything else.

I do the same myself Reichu with games and console. I never list specs because not only do I not understand them, I don't like them. But I do list multiple names for the game and other such things that confuses people, lol.

I try to make it as simplistic as I can, because not everyone who comes to GT is a gamer.

Well you've answered your own question, you yourself didn't bother with the platinums, lol.

Thinpack is the second issue of Platinum.

And I said the wrong name, my apologies.

I meant Canon rap.

And now that Riechu has informed me that the thinpack is actually the Platinum, then I just withdrawl my earlier statements, lol.

Does that mean what I think it means?

The first 2 paragraphs?

Does that mean that you get all of the scenes from the DC's in that boxset?

Because it says for the first time you get EVERYTHING the way it was meant to be, but it couldn't be shown that way on T.V, so this is Guy who made it's true vision, for the first time ever, exclusive to Europe.

Yes. Platinum is the Anglosphere's name for the Japanese Renewal set, which folded back some of the re-animation from Death into the original (like upgrading the rather muppetish Rei at the end of ep#6); plus the subs are a new and much better translation.

The only thing not in the Platinum that is in the DCs (Resurrection/Gensis Reborn) are the enigmatic images superposed on the Reiquarium (http://www.animenation.net/forums/showthread.php?t=167319) in ep#23 ... platinum just has the redrawn Rei-tachi with nipples.

And yes, Cambs is short for Cambridgeshire.

Ah, thanks.

But having never seen an ep of it yet (trying to though, but if I can't, i'll buy a movie and see what it's like, which is why I was wanting to know which movie comes first? And does it also come before the series?), %95 of what you just said flew straight over my head, lol.

But is that thing in ep 23 in the DC important? Or is it literally just the same scene but re-drawn?

But having never seen an ep of it yet

Ooops! Apologies for possible spoilerage. I'd sort of assumed that you'd seen it before (e.g. when it aired on the SciFi channel the other year).

which movie comes first? And does it also come before the series?),

Although the series is set in 2015, there are flashbacks to as early as 1999, so "before the series" is not a well defined thing. The narrative starts with episode 1.

Death, as clip-show/series summary does contain some 2000-2003 era scenes that were not in the original on-air version, but these scenes have been folded into Platinum episode 21'. End Of Evangelion is, as its title suggests, the end of the series.

%95 of what you just said flew straight over my head, lol.

Good. The spoilerage will be less, then.

But is that thing in ep 23 in the DC important? Or is it literally just the same scene but re-drawn?

Platinum's 23" is just redrawn with a budget, and without the constraints of TV. The enigmatic images in the DC 23' are otaku fodder, of interest if you get into the attempts to figure out what was really going on behind the scenes.

Ixnay. The redone bits in DEATH that are not for #21~#24 remain in DEATH only. Shinji and Misato at the end of #04, Shinji and Rei at the end of #06, etc., are just as ugly -- drawing-wise -- in Renewal as they ever were.

Out of curiosity, Nagisa's reflection in Rei I's eyes and the subsequent sketch appears only in Death, right? I don't see that scene in either ep21 or 21'.

It's not, Death only.
This thread highlights all of the differences found in each (thanks to Reichu and anyone who found other differences.)

A lotta good that will do, what with all of those broken links. :P

In DEATH, the "Eyes UP, Kaworu sketch, Eyes UP + Kaworu reflection" sequence was swapped in for the vertical pan of Naoko strangling Rei. But why? :makes spooky sound:

But Riechu, it did say that this was the ULTIMATE collection, so surely it's everything, right?

Thanks Tines. No mate, never caught it on Sci-Fi, I rarely watch anything onf Sci-Fi anymore, usually crap. I know thye shown Bebop, and I was gutted I missed it, and I missed Bubblegum, but I had never even heard of Evangelion, so I don't think I even saw the name crop up on the T.V guide thing Sky has, lol.

I wonder if they have plans to re-show it. Or if they plan on showing any other Anime shows.
