Hi, I' planning on purchasing the dvd but like to know which dvd has the better of the english dubb. Cause I heard there were a redubbed version by pioneer that wasn't as good as the other one.
So I'm wondering which one these has the better (english) dubb version.

This is the most complete DVD version of the movie by Central Park Media (CPM), which was released back in 2002. As far as I am aware of, all previous versions (and versions released thereafter) were also released by CPM since they hold the domestic license to the movie. Also, as far as I am aware of, there has only been one dub made for the movie, and that was in conjunction with CPM and not Pioneer/Geneon. While not what I would call a "good" dub (I don't find many dubs to be good, to be honest) it could have been a whole lot worse. Again, that I am aware of, all releases of the movie contain the same English dub.
The cover that I point out above is a two disc set containing both the Japanese audio with English subtitles and the English dubbed versions of the movie. The second disc includes tons of extras like interviews, a film biography, historical facts, trailers, etc. It's the definitive edition if you want to purchase the movie and obtain/appreciate the story or background behind it.
I believe that the red cover (the top right image in your post) was released in 2004, and it contains both audio versions of the movie on just one disc. It has a lower price tag than the Collector's Edition, so if you don't care about the extra disc, you could go with this one.
As for the black cover; that DVD was released sometime before 2000 - in 1997 or '98 I believe. It also contains both audio versions of the movie. Not much more to say about it, except that it probably isn't too much different than the red cover release, except in packaging. ^_^
I hope this helps in deciding what version is right for you.

Since the question was answered I just want to say that this is a great movie, and anyone who hasn't watch it yet should do so.
Only problem I had with it was it's portrayal of American fighters just randomly showing up in Villages and mowing people down... yes we bombed them, but I really have a hard time believing we were just running around the country side with Mustangs mowing the town's people down...
But, nothing big really, if anything it just portrays the horrors of war (which was a horrible war).

I will second this. It's one of the greatest animated films of all time, and really I would say one of the greatest films period (animated or live action) and certainly worthy of the title of greatest anime ever, because it powerfully illustrates the horrors of war, and basically in summary shows why it should never happen. This movie can't really be described in words, you have to see it to get the impact of it. One note though, bring a box of kleenex. This movie is a tear-jerker if I ever saw one.
And if possible, I also highly recommend this movie subbed, not just because it's fitting since this movie takes place in Japan and based off real-life events, but also because the Japanese version is just done so excellently. Setsuko's voice is as cute and loveable a voice as you'll ever hear (which only helps make things even sadder when she dies).
