This thread is going to be filled with spoilers, so don't read on unless you've gotten past volume 22.

Would someone please help explain to me what the heck happened in the volumes 17-21? From what I've been able to muster, the fact that two branded individuals (Caska and Guts/Gatts) amplified the potency of nearby manifestations of the dark world. I don't quite understand the egg critter, though. What exactly was it babbling on about? And what was the deal with it sticking people with it's appendages? It turned the goat guy into a demon, but what happened with the Lord Mozgus and his posse of executioners? They got freaking wings when they were stuck.

And how the heck did Griffith come back? Is it the same Griffith as Femto?

The egg dude is an apostle. He also somehow gave Mozgus and his group those wings n stuff. Apparently he simply has an ability to "monster-ize" things. The limitations and explainations of apostle abilities are rarely fully explained =/

I don't really know what you mean by him babbling, I don't remebmer any particularly confusing parts, but that may be because it was something explained later(I'm current which is around volume 31).

Griffith came back as a reincarnation of his previous self, Femto is no more. Basically: Golden Age Griffith becomes God Hand Femto becomes Millenium Falcon Griffith.

I realize some of these answers aren't too clear, and you'll have to forgive me as I haven't read those volumes in many months. Probably almost a year by now. I'm sure someone can come with more definitive answers eventually

Millenium Falcon Griffith. Hah! More Star Wars references please.

Thanks. That was quite helpful.

The Egg apostle was telling his story. (wierdest character ever I'll warrant)
He was some orphan dude who grew up alone without any human contact in the pits around Albion, he rarely saw people. When he did they ran away (I guess a naked hairy guy would scare you).
Eventually people started throwing corpses in his pit, and he got a better idea of what was going on around him in the slums. He saw murders, rapes, theft, executions.
And I guess he didn't like it.

One day he finds a Behelit (dun dun dun) and the Godhand do their thing and ask him if he wants to be a demon, he says yes....
AND DECIDES TO SACRIFICE HIS WORLD FOR A BETTER FUTURE.

In doing so he eventually becomes the vessel for a better future (Griffith's reincarnation) and his world (The Albion slums) get sacrificed.

Mozgus and friends were turned into demi-demons. Something alot of Apostles do (Roshinu with the fairy kids and bug men: And The Count with Zondark).

And Millenium Falcon Griffith is essentially....niether Femto nor Golden Age Griffith.
