I'm curious to know if most of you guys tend to "skim" through pages of the manga, or take your time to follow the art? It seems like the people I know tend to just blaze through a title page by page, just reading the dialogue and not paying as much attention to the art. I tend to just take my time and examine each box of the art, as well as dialogue.
Funny... it takes me almost two hours to read a typical manga in one sitting. ;)

If the arts not interesting but story is great, then like 40 mins, But if the art is great, it could take days cuse I tend stop now and then to try and draw something. :P

I usually get through one tankouban on bus rides to work, so about a hour and a half, depending on the exact size of the tankouban and how much more advanced the Japanese is.

Well, personally I hate breaking up the story by stopping to really examine the art so I try to read at a pace that feels natural for the story. Once I'm finished, I'll go back over it and look more closely at the art if it's worth it. Especially for stuff like Tenjo Tenge, Berserk, xxxHolic, D.Gray-man, Negima, etc.
I'd say the only exceptions at the moment are Trigun and King of Bandits Jing because while the art IS great, the panels are a little difficult to dicifer action from sometimes so I'll often have to study it close even on the first read.

Yeah, I can understand that. Sometimes the art can be so detailed that it does make it harder on the eyes to follow along (especially with CLAMP's work). I guess in my case, I often make an important note of the character expressions or important settings, along with the story.

Most of the manga I buy domestically I have already read previously (scanalated), so I tend to just breeze through the text since I've already taken in the art.

psuedo: Yeah, that's what I try to do, just take the important stuff form the art in the first run, details second run.
Of course, there are times where a panel just screams for attention, such as ALOT of the fights in Hajime no Ippo. Probably the only manga that has kept me on the edge of my seat and really excited to read constantly. The KO punches always have an incredible sense of motion, power, and impact, it's FREAKIN AWESOME!!! :w00t:

On average, I'd say it takes me between half an hour to an hour to read one manga volume, depending, for the most part, on the size of the volume and how dialogue-heavy it is. (It also depends on how often I turn back and re-read pages, and that depends on the individual series.)
Volumes with detailed artwork take me a bit longer to read, because I spend more time studying the panels - either admiring the artwork (Watase Yuu, CLAMP), or closely following the action scenes (Watsuki Nobuhiro's Rurouni Kenshin, Takahashi Rumiko's Mermaid Saga, InuYasha).

He doesn't think that the manga can convey action the same way as anime (for obvious reasons), and while that's true for the most part, it's certainly not true for Ippo. Just like the anime, while reading the manga, I have a tendency to move to the edge of my seat, hold my breath, and occasionally bob and weave with the panels XD

40 minutes is the average for me. There are a couple exceptions, notably Golgo 13 and Buddha. Golgo 13 has quite a bit of dialogue and narrative, so it takes a bit longer for me to read. Buddha naturally, is thick, and provokes a lot of thought, so I really enjoy reading it and stopping to take in something I read in it.

it depends. on average, the first time takes 30-45 minutes, though I may go back through for art, and certain manga (trigun) are harder to follow than others.

Usually it takes me anywhere from 30-40 minutes. Some with more text take longer.

Maybe 40 minutes, but I rarely read any manga in one sitting anymore. Ken Akamatsu manga takes a bit longer, like an hour or more.

Something like Tsubasa takes me maybe 25-30 minutes. Death Note, on the other hand, can take me up to an hour or more. Am I the only one who has a hard time following it? I love it to pieces, but all of the details have my head swimming after awhile.

It depends on my mood and the kind of manga I'm reading. Usually it takes about an hour, but if its a seires that I just can't wait to see what happens next in, I'll breeze through it. This is what I usually do with Chronicles of the Cursed Sword, Sgt. Frog, Hot Gimmick, Samurai deeper Kyo and Red River. If I have time I go through them a second time for all the little details I might have missed.
But if I really enjoy the series, I'll take my time and make sure I get a good look at everything. Blade of the Immortal, Wallflower, xxxHolic, Nodame Cantabile, Kanata Kara, Power!! and ES usually take up an hour or more of reading.
GTO and Deathnote always take longer though, one because there's just alot of text and Death Note is just complicated heavy stuff that needs more brainpower.

Most usually take me from 40 min to 1.2 hours. Depends on if there's a lot of words or not.

It used to take me almost exactly an hour to read one English GN, but as I've built up my collection and repertoire, it now takes less time than that. Maybe around 40 minutes, give or take 10 minutes.

Half an hour on average, more if there's more text or if I have to REALLY look at a scene to get it. You really can'T breeze through a MEgumu Okada work without stopping at least once to really take in the art...WAY too many details.

Anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. It depends on the amount of detail and dialogue in the manga. Your typical Dragonball-ish storyline takes me 10 minutes since it's all action and no narrative. However, if you're talking Vagabond-style art and Ghost in The Shell narrative, that can take me up to one hour or more.

Depends - If I go really carefully I can take as much as several days examining key scenes and art, but if I'm simply reading for the pure joy of skimming through, usually about twenty minutes or less.

Not terribly fast, because I want to enjoy the art and analyze it for a moment. But I usually read through it in one sitting just because I find it interesting enough.
One time I read "The Martial Way" (a non manga) in one sitting. Took me 8 or 9 hours but I liked it so much I didn't want to stop.

Normally i'd read throgh it then go back and study the art but sometimes i notice small things and stop to stare at it, but that just breaks up the story.
But when it comes to scenes with two people talking i'll race through them as it's generally two or three faces.

I go too fast, but that's because I can read things really quickly. It's annoying how quick some manga goes ;.;

Vey fast unless the art is really eye catching

I don't really read my manga fast. I appreciate the quality of the art first, then I use my imagination and immerse myself into that world. When I do that, reading manga can be such a great experience. In all, it can take me more or less 1 hour to get though an average manga of 200 pages. ^_^ I'm such a daydreamer. :P

I read manga fairly fast...about 10 to 15 min, tops.
But then I go back to it again, and take my time to just enjoy the art work.

I haven't read a volume of manga in months.
But I used to read a volume every half hour or so.

For some like an SJ title (200 pages and a straight forward story), I go through them in about an hour and in one sitting. But then I will usually reread manga about half a dozen before moving on to the next one. I wish I could make them last longer though >_<
The only exceptions would be GitS and Akira. I took about 1 hour per chapter because of the story complexity and the great artwork.

Probably an hour for most of my readings. Though I really like to treasure the ten dollars I would spend on a manga title by making the first reading last longer. :P

It takes me awhile since I only read one story at a time then take the whole day reflecting and rembering what has happend. Since I don't read manga all the time it may take me from a week to a couple of months.

Yea i have that problem of missing alot of the more subtle parts of the story and the art when i breeze through reading the manga the first time, but i normally go back and make a second read pretty soon after.

After going through and reading people put anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour...
Are we talking about the same thing? I thought this was about volumes, not chapters.
Maybe I'm the only one that takes an hour or so to read a volume.

Well some people are also probably talking about really image heavy manga as well as either being fast readers or just generally the kind that skim quickly. I assume so anyway.

Somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour, there are a few times were it takes over an hour, but I don't think it ever to less then 45 minutes to read.

I read naruto scanalations which usually take about 20 mins depending on the size of the dialogue which is pretty small. This gives me enough time, I think, to fully appreciate the mood or effect Kishimoto creates in each scene.

It depends on how much free time I have…. normally I like to take my time (45 or more minutes) however I have read some in less then/or in 30 minutes.

About a half hour, depending on series or the length of the volume.
First, especially if I'm anxious to see what happens next, I breeze through it. Once I'm satisfied I go back and reread it, taking time to really look at the artwork and certain scenes that caught my attention.

It doesn't take me very long at all... probably 15-20 minutes a volume. I get way too caught up in it and before I know it I'm done. I do the same thing with good novels as well, though.

same with me, but if the circumstances are extreme, sometimes, it takes me 5 minutes, but usually only if it's my second readthrough

I blaze through any printed manga. I'm the same with downloaded manga as well. It's very hard for me to buy manga because I get at most 30 minutes of joy from it. Very expensive pleasure. The only mangas I have bought have been because the art was so beautiful or because the anime rocked so much I had to get the manga (Onegai Teacher).
