I remember a thread a while back that asked if you were going to upgrade to vBuletin 3.6. You said yes, but I can't find the thread. Did you upgrade? What features did you implement?

If you look at the very bottom of the page, you will see that this is still vbulletin 3.0.8 for now.

Didn't notice that. Can we make suggestions as to what feature we'd like to see?

I don't see why not, but nothing will be guaranteed.

A system where after a certain amount of posts you can change the Colour of your name(but not to red of course) Other than that I like the fourms as they are.

Changing the color of your Username would be cool. Maybe we could also get some 100x100 avatars up in 'hur'.'

Postbit on the left side, like most other forums I visit. Looks way better to me.

What do you mean by postbit on the left side? You mean all the post count, location and join date on the left? I dunno, I'm kinda used to it now, although yeah, that would look a bit cooler. I remember a forum where the Avatar and teh postbit were on opposite sides. That looked cool to me.

We need bigger avatars and post shields. But no rep points. That has ruined many a forums.

Yeah, all that information, including the avatar, is called the postbit. I think it looks so much better on the side, but I ain't complaining.

In fact, the fewer changes that are put in, the better in my opinion. I like how AN is set up. Unlike so many other forums, everything works well. I say just fix this nonsense with the swear filter and be done with it.

Yea. Same, But I still say we make it so you could eventually change the colour of your name <3

I'm agree completely. I prefer a minimalist forum format.

As far as the 'postbit' (never heard that term), avatar size, signature, and all of that other crap that has nothing to with the content of a person's posts, the only changes I'd advocate are those that would make them take up less room.

As far as 'colored names' or any other 'benefit' of having X number of posts - I don't like the idea. It would place some sort of meaning (however trivial) on post count, which is already a matter of contention for some people even though it currently doesn't mean anything at all.

And of course, would only lead to unnecesary spam on the forums. If you had to get say 100 to get a 100 avatar, I could only imagine the spam we would get on the forums.

I agree. That's the way it was back in '03, and I was always fond of it being on the left. Other than that, I think the forum is fine the way it is. (but I suppose a slightly higher avatar kb limit is out of the question, at least 3kb more)

I believe that's AnimeNation's address. Now the whole COMPANY is going to be stalked. ^_^

I dont have to write him to stalk him..all I got to do is hop in my car and drive down there to kidnapp him.

Might be good for trade. I'd stalk them myself, but it's a long way to go, and my stalkin' list is kind of full.

The character limit on the user titles could stand to be increased. I've had to shorten titles here a couple of times that were of acceptable length on other boards.

Lager avatars would be good, but only if they wouldn't increase your bandwidth. One feature I liked was the avatar resizing. An avatar a little over the limit would still fit and still look good.

I'm sure you don't mean that the way you've written it, because it's completely HTML compatible. If it was not, you wouldn't be able to view it in a web browser. However, it might be that the site is not fully standards-compliant. If that's what you meant, then AN are in the hands of the vBulletin developers, since they are responsible for the whole of the forum code.

...and which I believe comes with its own set of problems, which members would no doubt exploit for the purpose of defeating the rules.

Yeah, sorry, I phrased it wrong. I meant users being able to use HTML.

It's true, problems probably would arise, but there are ways to filter malicious coding.

I can't believe I didn't realise that right off. I must be having an off-day.

What are the advantages you see of including the feature? It's configurable though the AdminCP if I recall my own vBulletin skills properly... there's no reason why the forum couldn't have it, if the owners actually thought there was a need.

Fobb

Well, really the only advantage I see to it is for myself personally. I find HTML easier to use than the forum codes.

I don't see how <a href="http://www.animenation.com">Link</a> is easer then [url=www.animenation.com]Link[//url] (minus the second slash)

The <'s and >'s are easier to reach than the [ and the ]'s. Like I said, it's my own personal preference.

I'd like to see a you posted here icon on threads. With a lot of threads with similar names it would be a good way to keep track of which one you actually posted in.

HTML is a big big big big big big No no. It allows users to set up javascript redirects or insert any malicious code they could think of. The majority of times VB has been "hacked" was due to this being turned on and iframes or the such being inserted. Beyond that, it's mostly faulty hook/plugins or things such as "flash chat".

Why upgrade to 3.6.1? Security is the prime reason. Post bit can be enabled left or top in admincp, so that's hardly any biggie. 3.0.8 to 3.6.1 is a big jump in features as well, so it would be a bit nicer for everyone.

In other news I'm watching you all! (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/member.php?u=40316)

Fobb
September 18th, 2006, 10:57 AM
Like I said before, there are plenty of ways to filter those codes, and to disable javascript.

EDIT: You know what just popped into my head? It's be seriously cool if we could have customizable profiles. Maybe it's just me, but I love customizing stuff...I doubt that's doable though.
