As I brought Takeshi Obata (the artist of Hikaru no Go and Death Note)'s artbook, Blanc et Noir, which was $60 (ouch), I wonder who collects artbooks. I don't have many but there's my collection:
Tohru Kousaka (artist of Okane-ga Nai), Kill Or Say Love Me
Nanase Chrono (creator of Peacemaker Kurogane), Chrono Kurogane
Hiromu Arakawa, The Art of Fullmetal Alchemist
Range Murata (character designer for Blue Sub 6 and Last Exile), Re:futrhythm (Stantard Edition)
Tae Hyung Kim (character designer for the Magna Carta and War of Genesis Games), Oxide
Takeshi Obata, Blanc et Noir
and a couple of Comickers' anthology books
I'm planning to get the US Version of CLAMP's For You Eyes Only, Range Murata's futurecode (hopefully if they release a standard edition), Hiromu Arakawa's Art of Fullmetal Alchemist 2, any Kazusa Takashim or NiO artbook I can find.
List you stuff here too if you wanna!

RahXephon Official Illustration Collection
ROBOT vol 1&2, not sure if this really counts, but I suppose it does
Flambouyant - Ugetsu Hakua
Kawamori Shouji Design Works - Kawamori does mecha designs for Macross, Eureka seveN, Armored Core, Aquarian Age, etc.
Ar Tonelico guide (game)

OKAMAX - OKAMA
Hanafuda - OKAMA
Comickers series 1 - Oh!Great + Hiroshi Kaieda
Kazuma Kaneko Collection II
Eureka seveN vol 1: Character

Hmmmm I have:
ROBOT #1 (Domestic)
ROBOT 2-5 (Import)
Groundworks of Mahoromatic (All three)
Growlanser Character Collection (Satoshi Urushihara)
Sigma (http://store.yahoo.com/animenation/4056044856.html) (Satoshi Urushihara)
U:COLLECTION (http://store.yahoo.com/animenation/4063645339.html) (Satoshi Urushihara)
Words Worth Perfect File
I know I have more but my mind is drawing a blank, and I'm at work so I cant check.
I would like to get more Range Murata artbooks, such as Rule Fa or Re:Futurhythm, and maybe some stuff by Hanaharu Naruko (http://www.otakuwiki.com/index.php/Hanahalu), Kumichi Yoshizuki (http://www.otakuwiki.com/index.php/Tuchinoko), or Okama (http://www.otakuwiki.com/index.php/Okama)
and as Ariel mentioned, Tae Hyung Kim is another of my favorite artists. I wouldnt mind having a War of Genesis or Magna Carta artbook.
Gasaraki if you can get a picture or scan of the cover of your unknown artbook, I'm sure somebody would be able to translate it. My kanji skills are pathetic, but I can at least try ^___^

Ok first, does Hanaharu Naruko actually have artbooks out?! I didn't think she had any.
As for getting a scan, I can't really do that, but I can get a picture (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4977/p1010276ym9.jpg). Thanks for those links too, in that case the title to the OKAMA book that I didn't know is Hanafuda.

As I brought Takeshi Obata (the artist of Hikaru no Go and Death Note)'s artbook, Blanc et Noir, which was $60 (ouch), I wonder who collects artbooks. I don't have many but there's my collection:
....I hate you so much. :naughty:
I have only three, all imports:
Full metal Alchemist TV animation vol.2
Manga Carta (beautiful artwork inside, A must get...but $50)
Fruits Basket
Manafairy
August 12th, 2006, 05:52 AM
I've only got two if you don't count videogame ones that they sometimes include as preorder bonuses. I intend to get more one day, but for now, all I have is:
G/B (An import, obviously. It was the only GetBackers [manga] artbook I could find, and I love it  )
Angel Cage (The domestic release, of course. My shameless Kaori Yuki love bought this one, and I was happy to see more than just Angel Sanctuary in it ^_^ )
I want to get the domestically released Priest artbook, and if they have it at Anime Gamers (about 90% of the store is imported books and merchandise, so they have a pretty good selection of artbooks), pick up Ayano Yamane's artbook in the near future. Other than those, I'm not sure what artbooks I absolutely must have, but I want to expand my collection somehow....

I have....
Import;
Edge of Gundam
The production sketches as seen in "Groundwork of Evangelion" vol III (due to teh Kaworu-icity)
Mobile Suit Z Gundam Nostalgia; Believe in a sign of Z? may count since there's art inside....
Domestic;
The art of Inuyasha
If this counts; Anime Poster Art; Japan's moviehouse masterpieces
Pretty weak considering I <3 artbooks, almost bought the smaller Fruits Basket one, a Matsumoto one(a bit much for the asking price imo), and domestic Clamp North/South side books, only to end up reading the whole thing(s) at the store(s).
I'm pretty sure I need to get the newest(quite pricey) X artbook, what I saw of it was simply beautiful. Another Gundam/Evangelion book would be nice as well, perhaps.

I first started buying artbooks only for titles I liked (just for collection purposes), then I bought some for my box designing purposes that I normally wouldn't have, though I still only bought them for titles I liked; I wouldn't have bought an artbook for something I didn't like just for scanning purposes only. I haven't bought any in some time though.

Well that is indeed alot of kanji in your image (image) (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4977/p1010276ym9.jpg)
I can read a couple of the kanji characters, but not enough to make out anything. I'll try to remember to ask my Japanese tutor on Thursday. She loves translating things like that. Hopefully it doesnt say anything ecchi :P
Also, I dont know if Naruko has any artbooks out, in fact I never even knew she was female lol. I guess "Naruko" should have given it away, but I didnt think about it. I love Kamichu! so I hope an artbook to that comes out sometime soon.
Gasaraki
August 12th, 2006, 02:42 PM
Thanks, and I honestly wouldn't be too surprised if it did say something ecchi, the guy/girl has done image covers for hentai mags before haha.
Well, I don't know for sure if Hanaharu Naruko is a girl, it could be a pen name or something. I'm just assuming from that name.

I used to buy artbooks, but I honestly get bored of them quickly because there are only so many times I can look through them at the same pictures and still be interested. I prefer the "research books", books with all sorts of text, diagrams, and photos concerned with the background of the series, making of the series, and other file data.

^ Do you draw? That's the only reason I'm really interested in artbooks.
Suiko Eiji
August 14th, 2006, 08:28 AM
I used to; I used to use them as study material for developing my own style of artwork. I'm much better with language, writing, and communication than I am visual media like artwork, hence probably why I enjoy research books more because there is more concrete information to process.

Drawing purposes not to mention interesting portrayal of chracters is a main reason I love artbooks. There's always the part about me loving....eh, art. That's why I'm a bit choosy about which ones I by, they must be worth my money in my opinion. Pictures not scaned on the internet is another plus.
^Did you used to draw mecha as well, Suiko? =o

^Did you used to draw mecha as well, Suiko? =o
Poorly, but I made the attempt. It was hard for me to get the correct angles and I rarely carried a decent straight edge in my art suplies.
Ironically, the majority of my mecha books post-date when I gave up drawing. Most mecha work I did was off of things like CD covers or pictures found on the Internet.
