Movie 4 is an excellent non-canon movie, though whether to buy it before the GitS movies is up to you; those are two totally different genres of anime...

I got the 4th movie in the mail about the day it came out I think, but haven't watched it yet. I did see a fansubbed Japanese DVD-rip, however, and from what I recall it was very good. I highly recommend it, especially if you like Inuyasha.
More so, this looks like an almost perfect release. My brother watched his in English the other night, and it had the usual English credits and the English logo that annoyingly appears just as the Japanese begins to take shape. This is good for watching it in English, but it really bothered me when I would watch movies 1-3 in Japanese and would still get that. Well anyway, today my brother wanted to double check the Japanese voices so he could compare them to the English. As he was skimming the credits at the end, I glanced over and suddenly noticed - they were in Japanese! Taking note of this, my brother checked the opening credits (which were also in Japanese), and found that the Japanese logo is completely intact with no English one! So as a big purist (especially on Japanese stuff), I am tickled pink about that. The extras also look excellent, and include a textless movie opening and ending, of which we never got for the other movies. I can't think of any complaints, unless you talk about some nit-picks sub-wise (I noticed as my brother was checking the stuff, I saw the typical "Lord Sesshomaru" rather than "Sesshoumaru-sama" or even "Lord Sesshoumaru". I'm also sure the attacks are left as the Viz dub versions. *curses "Backlash Wave"*). But as to the good stuff, if only Viz had done this for the other Inuyasha DVDs. This can make both sub and dub fans happy now. I'm extremely glad to see that, between this and what I've heard about the Naruto box sets, Viz is finally waking up to the fans more and is keeping things purer. *crosses fingers for future Inuyasha boxes getting same treatment*

I've only seen the US versins of Inuyasha. Why do you curse the Backlash Wave? Is it called something else in Japanese?
And I'm a huge Naruto fan as well. What have you heard about the future Boxset releases of Naruto?

In Japanese, I think it runs more along the lines of "Exploding Dragon Wave" or something like that. It doesn't bother me all that much that they changed the name. I guess they though Exploding Dragon Wave was a mouthful. Kongosouha was changed to "Adamant Barrage", the original name has something to do with diamonds so I don't know.
Despite the changed names of stuff, and unlike most people, I'm actually pretty happy about the way the dub of most of InuYasha turned out. Watching both the fansubbed version before and seeing the dubbed version now, I judge it as being a good dub mostly because it doesn't, shall we say, "feel" different to watch it dubbed.

I just got movies 3 & 4 in the mail today. Half of the question I was gonna ask has already been answered here, so here's the other half. Does the third movie take place during a specific time in the series (ie. between certain episodes?) Thanks.

Well they don't actually happen as for following the series because there just movies but movie 3 would be taking place before he got the Adamant barrage but Way After the band of Seven and Naraku's "new form" which hasn't be new for some time
As for movie 4 it would be taking place about at least past ep 157 (Ep when inuyasha gets the Adament barrage from Housenki) maybe after the series i dont know i was going to watch those eps in subbs but i decided to wait :P

None of the movies affects the timeline of the anime (or of the manga, obviously). They are secondary canon* and are meant to compliment the manga and anime. However, the movies do "take place" during a certain point in the series - i.e., each movie was meant to be watched after a certain episode(s), because they include spoilers regarding character development and Tessaiga power-ups.
The third movie takes place after the Shinchinitai ("Band of Seven") and Naraku 4.0 (as some of us call Naraku's fourth reformation), but before Tessaiga acquires the Kongousouha ("Adamant Barrage" in the dub). The fourth movie takes place after the end of the anime.
*I define the movies as "secondary canon" because the information presented in the movies takes a back seat to the information presented in the manga. In other words, if the manga contradicts the movies, then the manga is right, not the movies.

Since you said the 4th movie takes place after the end of the anime, does it show if Inuyasha & Kagome ever got like married or engaged ort anything? Also, does it show Miroku & Sango still engaged together? What is this movie about?

No, the fourth movie is not a peek into the characters' future. (Due to the fact that the animators ended the anime like they did, I would assume that they're not aiming to come up with their own ending for the series, since the manga isn't over yet.) But yes, Sango and Miroku are still engaged in the fourth movie, although since that's not the focal point of the movie, it's not really mentioned.
The fourth movie is centered around a mystic island, Hourai Island, which only appears every five decades, is under the control of the Four War Gods (shitoushin), and is inhabited by hanyou children who are unable to escape from the island because of a seal.
Here is the summary from AnimeNewsNetwork (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4228):
The mysterious island of Houraijima has reappeared after 50 years, and with its reappearance has brought the attack of four gods, the Shitoushin, who have their eyes set on the powers that protect and sustain the island. Now it's up to Inuyasha and his friends, along with Sesshoumaru, to find a way to defeat the powerful Shitoushin.
It's a pretty basic summary, but I feel like trying to tell you more about the movie will spoil it for you. Just rent it and watch it yourself.
