Hun, you can basically put anything and everything in a Rice Ball.

If you check some of the other threads in this Japanese Culture Forum, I'm sure you can find a link to Japanese Foods.

I seem to recall someone putting a link to japanese recipes in the Curry and Rice thread.

Anyway, have fun making them and good eating! :)

God, I love umeboshi! Not too many people can handle them, but I can. i eat it like it's candy.

I suck at making those. I tried a few days back and I ruined them. So I just went to my local asian store and bought some.

Videl.............

Nope...not even going to ask......

Man, V, you are leaving me speechless today.

That's a first.

And last.

I have such an effect on you.

Anyway, the ones with Salmon are the best. I could go for some now actually. But I cant get to the store, I'm almost off lunch break. Crap! I should just get some crappy American food then.

Rice balls forever. Except the ones with the pickled plum in it. Those are uber nasty.

I'm telling you Kiyomi, you're going to laugh yourself to your grave.

Umeboshi are delicious. I eat them like candy, as well. Along with Saladitos, which are Mexican dried salted plums. They're really a good combination.

You lie. You couldn't possible not like umeboshi. :(

I don't know why, I just don't like pickled things really. Plum especially.

Yeah, most of my family is that way. My brothers and sisters couldn't eat umeboshi to save their lives. It's too bad 'cause I think they're yummy.

I found a pretty decent looking onigiri recipe here (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_1359,00.html), if anyone is interested.

Ahhh..the great Food Network.

I watch most of their shows and get some great tips on how NOT to burn my food.

And Danju..honey..sweetiecakes..I TOLD you in that other thread, that Satan and I have a pact!

I get him souls..he lets me live FOREVER.

So, I can die laughing all I want.

Won't kill me.

Might kill others..but..not me.

i usually make onigiri before long trips simply because it's easier than making any other kind of food and i've been eating it since before i can remember, but i dont usually put anything in it other than just the rice, that's just how my parents always made it for me so i dont really bother to make it any other way (although a couple weeks ago i was experimenting with canned tuna, mixing it with ginger and soysauce and then mixing that with the rice for the onigiri, didnt taste too bad)

Ginger and soy sauce are always good with tuna. Not too bad a recipe, Yoshio! ^_^

When i make Riceballs I like mine with prosciutto and scallops. I also will get some sweet thai sticky rice and make a ball around some prosciutto wrapped around a fresh fig. I love to bring those on a picnic with a bottle of Eiswein on a hot summer day.

I'm telling you Kiyomi, you're going to laugh yourself to your grave.

That would be the way to go. Somehow the body would not let the muscles involved in smiling relax and you'd be buried with a smile on your face.

Do riceballs require a cooker to make or can it be done by hand after the rice has been made "sticky?" Pardon the dumb question, but I've seriously never made and munched on rice balls.

all you need to do is make the rice, and then get your hands wet (usually adding some table salt to your wet hands as well), and you're ready to start molding your rice balls or rice triangles or rice mishapen blobs, whichever floats your boat

Sometimes I'll take the extra step of grilling them to make the outside crispy/crunchy (yaki-onigiri)... I love oko-ge (burnt rice) anyway, so it's a nice treat! Yes, bring on the ume-boshi!! Tons of it!!!!
