does anyone know how many mangas the anime is based on?

i was just wondering the number of mangas the anime Inuyasha is based on and if i do start buying the manga what number i should start at...

Ummm... The InuYasha anime is based on only one manga, InuYasha. -_-; Just one comic series, my friend, not more than one.

What I think you meant to ask was how many volumes the manga is. So far, only 27 volumes have been released in the U.S, and the U.S release of the manga is behind the broadcast of the anime. (I think the last episode was aired on Adult Swim recently.) The end of the anime coincides with manga chapter 356, which has not been released in the U.S yet.

(On the other hand, 46 volumes have been released in Japan so far (458 chapters), and the series is still ongoing (currently at chapter 469).)

If you ask me, it doesn't hurt to start at the manga from the beginning. There aren't that many differences, initially, between the anime and the manga, but there are some. But it's up to you. It's a long series, so I can understand if you'd rather pick up the manga where the anime left off.
