Does Naruto ever do real ninja stuff?

Im watching the CN airings of Naruto and while I realize that its very early in the series Im getting the feeling that Naruto is basically DBZ with ninjas. In other words every arc is 1) new badguy shows up 2) training 3) showdown with the badguy.

So is my feeling right or will Naruto eventually have some assasinations and espionage?

not really. you find out who the bad guys are later around when naruto meets jiraiya for the first time. from then on you know who the real bad guys are pretty much the whole series (at least to where the manga is right now, which is probably WAY ahead of CN). i never really watched the american version of the tv show.. they probably made it seem more retarded than it actually is, given american's history on mistranslation/editing/cropping.

Just continue watching and you will see. Also, that's how most shonen shows are like anyway.

Not really. Outside of Naruto's infamous, "Believe It!" it has been a decent dub. Nothing great outside of maybe Tenten and Kakashi's voice, but at least they kept the series intact. Although it would have helped a lot if they could have kept the openings and closings. The various opening and closing music is probably one of the best things about Naruto. But the Naruto dub is a masterpiece compared to anything 4Kids has touched and dubbed One Piece.

Yea, cutting out the openings and endings was a shame, but I heard it was for time constraint reasons. But atleast it's more intact than other things of the like. It's probably the only Shounen Jump title series that aired on television to actually fair pretty well content wise. It's not the end all-beat all of dubs, but atleast it's not 4Kids bad. Oh, and dub Gai is pure and unadulterated win. But then again Gai wins--period, no matter what language he's in.

Other than some blood editing and some bad voices if youre used to the original jap audio, they dont edit out much that ive heard of. I believe there is still death etc etc. In one piece they toned down one of buggys pirate members skin color becasue he was to black. Also in one piece they edit out guns and have cut out entire arcs. If i didnt have fast internet i would probably be happy to watch naruto on cn. I wonder if they will waste their time dubbing the fillers or not, im still up in arms on wether i shoulc keep the filler or not myself.

Oh, and dub Gai is pure and unadulterated win. But then again Gai wins--period, no matter what language he's in.
I forgot about Gai and his "handsome manly features!" His English VA has a lot of fun with the character and is awesome. I really want to see how they dub the Gaara vs. Lee fight.

The only ones that I know I don't like are Chouji and Shino's. Chouji's voice sounds constipated and Shino's is so different than his Japanese VA. I guess Viz saw Shino's design and thought he should sound like a huge nerd instead of having a deep serious voice.

I agree with you Denisa, Shino's and Chouji's voices are very different and not in the good way, Shino's is the biggest dissapointment I think but other than those two I like all of the other voices, Gai and Kakashi being two of my favorites lol

Well i hate all the voices ive heard so far to be honest, i like japanese voices better. Ive watched only part of one episode and heard narutos voice, and ehhh not great, and i heard kakashis, the beef was that is they got a totally lames guys voice trying to talk like a cool smooth guy, and what comes out is robot speak. The part im refering to is where narutos hanging in the tree and hes say a ninja shouldnt use his jutsu bla bla bla, not the worst voicing ive heard, but definetly bad, imo.
