Might get more manga recommendations in the manga forum, rather than the dvd forum.

But on the subject...

Gantz, Elfen Lied, Kuroshiya (Ichi the Killer), Pet Shop of Horrors, Monster, many others, just depends on what exactly you are looking for (action, horror, drama, etc)

oh, poop......accidently put it in wrong forum. could a mod plz move this to the manga forum.

.....and thx for the suggestions, but i think(not sure) that most of those you said aren't even avaliable in the US. i don't feel like scanlations.

If you ever do decide to dabble in scanlations, you definately need to read Gantz, Kuroshiya, and MPD Psycho.

But, since you don't seem to want to do that, you may want to pick up the domestic release of:

Priest
Island
Dragon Head
Eden
Blame!
Monster
Hellsing

And that's all I can think of off hand.....

I've heard so much about Monster, that I'll check out the manga.

Is the anime like the manga..or not?

And is it really that good?

Monster is tied for 1st as my favorite manga (with Battle Royale).

The anime is the most faithful translation ive ever seen. I've read chapters alongside of episodes and even the dialogue matches for a good percentage of it. I personally think the anime is better as it gives it those extra dimensions (voice, motion, etc), but the manga is nothing short of stunning by itself.

Theres 18 volumes (Volume 4 just came out this week, Volume 5 in October). So the series still has a way to go in america. But if you dont mind downloading scanlations, all volumes have been translated (as well as fansubs for all 74 eps of the anime).

It's too bad you refuse to partake in scanslations, or I'd direct you to Omanga. Pretty much all of their projects are dark, disturbing and/or violent, which seems to be your taste from your featured picks.

Yes. The premise is just the icing on the cake of what to expect. Really as you read Monster, half of the enjoyment comes from the people that interact with Tenma as he travels towards his goal. Can't wait until they start 20th Century Boys too as that one is just as good.

thx for the replys. i think i might try out the Gantz scanlations. just because i liked the anime and everyone says the manga is like 10x better.

i also think i'll check out D.Grey-Man, heard multiple good things about that.

as for monster.....in general, i like anime more than manga, so i think i'll just watch the anime when it get a US release.

I highly recommend Naoki Urasawa's Monster.
