Yes! Two Questions from the fish!

First of all, what is it with all the publishing houses in Japanese entertainment? It seems like lately I've encountered a lot of anime\novels\movies that involves someone working at a "small publishing house."

Second of all, I notice I never see much Japanese police in anime\moves\tv\etc. Which is a little odd considering in America we show reruns of COPS and America's Most Wanted regularly Where are all the Japanese Cops?

Can't anwser the first question, but if you want Japanese cops, Watch Super Gals or You're Under Arrest. Otherwise, there are no REAL Japanese cops. That's just a myth.

Providing some examples for your first question may make it easier to answer or discuss.

I don't think police shows make up an unusually large percentage of American TV. The same seems to be the case with Japanese television. There are anime titles like You're Under Arrest, Mainichi ga Nichiyobi, Patlabor, and Paranoia Agent that star or feature Japanese police. There are also very popular live action Japanese TV programs like Bayside Shakedown that star cops.

Actually the longest running manga in Japan and one of the longest TV Anime is Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen mae Hasutsujo (KochiKame for short). The general plot about this Anime from ANN Encyclopedia (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2027):
Ryoutsu, being an underpayed policeman, is always coming up with ways to make some quick money. But in the end, his plans which are ridiculous from the beginning always go wrong and land him in big trouble with the Buchou.

This is one of the most known TV Anime in Japan and it's about a police station. So one could say that even there isn't a large percentage of Anime with policemen in them, this TV Anime in particular gives them a place on Anime in general.
