I seem to have a problem where I will buy the first few volumes of a series and then instead of continuing that series, I go out and get the first few volumes of a different series. So far Ive started One Piece, Berserk, Akira, Naruto, Deathnote, D GrayMan, and HunterxHunter. Small list I know but I got into manga just recently. The only series Ive managed to complete/stay current with are Hellsing and GitS.
Im not sure what my problem is...Ive really liked all of them except D GrayMan, and its not a question of being able to afford it either. It might that Im daunted with having to get 10ish more volumes to become current :(
Does anyone else have this problem?

I have a problem of collecting new series when I am already collecting too many (I am currently collecting about 40 series) but I don't any trouble keeping up with them. It is daunting when I start a series that already has a bunch of volumes out though. Usually I won't collect a series if there are already more than about 8 volumes out, although I have made exceptions (Ai Yori Aoshi: 12 volumes, Angel Sanctuary: 11 volumes, Hot Gimmick: 10 volumes).

Sometimes I have that problem. There are sometimes series I start, but then I keep buying the volumes of manga series that I like better, and then I almost quit reading the others.

To me, it's about priority. I've started a number of series, most of which I may only have a volume or two of, but there are other series that I've been fond of enough to hunt down as much as I can, as soon as I can. I'm just now getting to where I have more time for manga than I have in the past couple of years, so I am buying more, but I'm torn between picking up "new" titles or picking up titles I already have started.

Part of my problem is that I like reading/building my collection on a lot of older titles, which is probably easier for me to buy the entire set at once. However, with titles like Dragonball running a few hundred bucks all at once, it's awfully hard to immediately drop that cash for it when I find a complete set. That's usually what a semester of text books costs me.

I not only DON'T have that problem, I don't worry about priority either. I don't restrict myself to only buying one or two at a time; at any given time, I am collecting several titles simultaneously (between 15-20 right now I think), and I always buy the new volumes when they come out. If I start purchasing a title where there are already many volumes out, I just buy those all at one time to immediately catch up.

I've adopted a policy of disciplined purchases with regards to my manga. I only buy series that I'm at least 80% sure that I will like, and I always buy four volumes of the same title at one time. The only reason for that, though, is because there's a place near me that will discount the price if you're buying four volumes of the same.

I only get high priority ones. Also, I try not to start new manga series unless I am very sure that I will like it. I am collecting a lot of series too, so I try to avoid starting something new unless it's something I absolutely must have.

I've actually sold off a few manga recently. I started some series I didn't like, so I sold them on ebay. It's a nice way to get rid of some manga that's taking up space.

I've done that myself more than a few times. It's more I think I should get at least a volume of some long series, but then realize I don't really want to buy the whole thing. I used to do that with the original Japanese manga, which was better since they were cheaper and with better quality, until I realized I was buying a lot more than I'd ever want to read.

SonRyu's answer convers me as well. I pretty much just buy series I know I'll like and re-read, but I don't limit myself to a certain amount before I'm finished. It's pretty ridiculous to do that since alot of liscenced manga that I'd be intrested aren't even close to being done.

Unless the series is so bad that I cannot continue it, I usually have no problem keeping up with manga.

I have sold stuff on Ebay before. And donated to local libraries as well.

This is what my friends called MADD, "Manga Attention Deficit Disorder" and I apparently inflicted with this. LMAO.

I more likely to start a series than continuing it. As we speak, I prolly have 50-60 titles in my collection, including Japanese tankoubans. I prolly have 20 or so titles that didn't go pass the first volume, and only finished 10 or so series.

But now, I TRY (keyword:try) not to start any manga before finishing one, unless it's a short series (less than five volumes).

I think that describes my thoughts when shopping for manga pretty well. Most of the series Ive picked up are relativly older (being at around v10ish) so to catch up I will have to drop 70$ bucks or so per title to catch up, which sounds like a whole lot more than spending 7$ every 3 months or so to stay current.

I think I just need to pick 3-4 series and focus on just getting those caught up before I start browsing for other series.

Oh, I meant that most of the manga I am trying to read come from a time when there were two Germanies.

Alot of stores seem to not carry Lone Wolf and Cub or Vagabond.
More room for random CLAMP series I guess...

I try not to start buying another series before I finish one, but sometimes I just cave in.
