Hi guys,
I just had a question about burning video files onto DVD. I was just wonder if its possible to put say a collection of .avi .mpeg files on DVD, but so that it playsback, rather than storing it as memory.
Because i've built up quite a lot of stuff which I just want off my computer so i can put it away.
Any advice or help wud be great, especially Mac OS X specific would be great.
(And no i'm not going into some kinda dodgy DVD making business)

Does your Mac have a DVD-burner in it?

Could be either or both. What model Mac did you get? I can look it up. Or you should be able to tell from the "About This Mac" info...
Animematt: Macs do this out of the box. No additional software needed. ^_^

The only issue i'm having with macs are that the programs they have are fine with Mp4 movie files... but not .avi
I've got a iBook G4: OS X v.10.3.9
Its mainly just cos sometimes it'd be nice to have disk space *sigh*

Download VLC player. It plays everything and works fine on a Mac.
Assuming you have the SuperDrive, it'll take either DVD-R or DVD+R media, or even DVD+R DL.
Insert a blank DVD, format it when prompted, and when the disc is done, drag files onto the icon on your desktop. Then click "Burn". It's that simple.

^Make a data disc, rather than a playable DVD.
Which version of Nero do you have?

While we're on the subject, I've been trying to make a playable DVD of .mov files. Nero won't do it for me because my computer hates me. I don't know why, but it has this inexplicable hate on for me.
Anyway, I've got them backed up on a data disk for now, but I'd like to be able to watch them on my DVD player. Any ideas?

you will need a converter. I use WinAVi 7.1 but there is another one out there. All of them you gotta buythough.

I screwed around with this for a long time. Didn't ever work reliably, so I got myself a player that can handle XviD and Divx, as well as some other useful formats. It didn't cost me a whole lot, either.

i had one of those....But it was either the player, or the TV...it cut off the bottom of the picture, so subtitles were cut off.

But now everything I buy hates me with a passion and I can't do what I want to do.
I'll try WinAVI.

Mine can scale and move the picture. You just keep shrinking or moving it up it until the subtitles are visible on screen. Once you calibrate the overscan compensation, it stays done.
All you need is one XBOX (not 360) and some technical know-how.
