View Full Version : Would You Buy AIR MASTER If It Was Re-Released?

I've fallen in love with AIR MASTER, but the boneheads at Toie really goofed up the R1 release when they attempted to get into the US DVD market - from substandard technical issues to never completing the series at all! I'd really like to see someone - Media Blasters, Geneon, Bandai, someone! - get their paws on the license for this title and give it a proper R1 release from start to finish. I'm wondering if there are other fans of this anime and if anyone else would support a re-release! So would you?

Amazingly, your poll doesn't have an option for:

7) Beats me. I thought it looked worth renting the first disc sometime after the series was completed. The series was never completed, so I never bothered renting it. I have no idea whether I'd want to buy it or not. Perhaps when some other company releases it, I'll give it a rental and make my decision. Until then, this title's completely off my radar.

Hmmm, well, I guess maybe that your reply would then come under option 6 ("Dunno") by default? It's the least-committed of the options, I suppose. :naughty:

I can't pick option 6 because I've heard about the title and even researched it, and I certainly don't want to hear any more about it until the press release says "Final volume released".

I'll make the decision based on the series' merits if it's ever fully released. Until then, it's dead to me. Just like every other title.

For me, the only thing I'll be looking to see is whether the writing and the voice acting is enough to make up for the character designs. If so, I'll rent the rest of the series. If after THAT I determine that Air Master has heavy rewatch value AND I'm able to find a deal on the complete set, I'd make the purchase. Not before.

So I guess if you're asking what I'd tell a potential distributor in order to help him make his decision to invest in the title, it would be this: "If you completely release the series at full quality AND if the series exceeds my expectations AND if I'm able to find the whole set on sale - I might pay the discount price for it, if I have some extra cash."

Would you invest your money based on that?

That option's too long for an Anime Nation poll - you can only use a handful of characters for each choice. :P

And of course there's always going to be some choice someone feels is left out... Why do I get the feeling you like to pick at me, Desslock? Still, the fact that you responded to this thread at all (as well as my other Air Master threads) makes me think the series isn't quite as "dead to you" as you say it is. I think ya still got some curiosity... otherwise you'd skip the topic, right? I'll put you down as a "maybe..."

I voted for the third option. I was interested in both Air Master and Slam Dunk but the problems Toei had with their discs kept me away. I wasn't giving them any of my money for such weak releases. If Toei came back and released the faulty volumes with corrected versions or if they licensed the titles to another company I trusted I'd give it a shot. I'm not holding my breath though.

I would buy it. If they rereleased all the DVDs in a box set, I would be the first to buy it. Love AM.

Well, this was my first attempt at a poll and although it doesn't seem to have generated much attention or discussion, I'm glad to see a few folks voted that they would buy the series if it got a 2nd chance.

Not really interested.

The third option pretty much sums up my feelings on both this and Slam Dunk. I was interested because I had heard a lot of good things about both of them, but the horror stories kept me away. Although neither was particularly high on my must-see list, so I don't know if I'd honestly be all that quick to care if they were rereleased anyways......

Hm, how do I put this. Air Master's a great series that I feel deserves more attention and I'd love to see it licensed. It's refreshing and different as a fighting show with nice animation and a fun story. It's been a long time since I've seen it though, but I'd consider buying it.

I really like Air Master so you can add me to the yes list. It really sucks that it got such a crappy release by Toei, but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as Slam Dunk being screwed over. That one hurts deep down. The damn series can't catch a decent break. Not even the manga... *sigh*

I wish AirMaster would get a decent release, and Off-Topic, Sailor Moon would get rereleased. You wanna talk about a masterpiece anime, there it is right there. I want to get the series, but it's out of print, and hard to find. Also, If Cowboy Bebop can get releases out the hizzy, SM deserves it too.

I'm VidelCoolGirl, and that's what really grinds my gears.

That just brings back even worse memories of the horrible audio quality for both the Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R sets. I can't beleive I paid so much for those when they came out. Though it wasn't a total loss. I still enjoyed it a lot even with the under water muffled sound.

Yeah, I still enjoy it even without the good quality. I'm surprised they haven't made a move to bring it out again. They could just do Season Think Packs. God, I would love that so much. I need to get into the SM fandom again.

Toei pretty much let it known that they had zero intentions of letting Sailor Moon be released in R1 format possibily ever again... They should of just done it right the first time and given us something better to work with then... THOSE! Even the missing Dinosaur episode (which I downloaded) had no real reason for not being included on the disks. I seriously don't understand Toei sometimes. I think they have the greatest library of anime ever to be assembled, but you really have to question some of the moves they make.

Like AirMaster. I wish ADV could grab it and rerelease it. Toei is prick for ruining almost every great anime they get their hands on. DIC included.

I have to download the series also. There's a great site that has all of them. Not in the greatest quality, but will have to do.

Back on topic with AirMaster, Maybe eventually it will be released again. Till then, fansubs.

For whatever reason I can see FUNimation playing the savior role and releasing Air Master one of these days. It's just a thought and one I'd like to see come true.

Same here. Even though they would release like 3 episodes per DVD. Like the DB ones.

If I could choose someone to rerelease Air Master, I'd probably go with Media Blasters. I think they do a decent job with their releases and tend to have decent prices. Heck, even if they went the same way they did with Loveless and included no dub, that's only about 15 bucks a dvd. Geneon would probably charge quite a bit more, but again, I think they do pretty good with their releases too. Personally, I don't care for ADV... I'd rather not have them pick the title up, but if it means getting a somewhat decent legit R1 release and a completed series, then I guess I can deal with Monica Rial's acting. I'll just watch it subbed... heh!

I would love to see a proper release, oh how I miss the subbed versions I had.

I wouldn't mind seeing Media Blasters dubbing it.
