I know some of you like this manga, so for that I'm sorry, but in September's Shojo Beat, the last installment of Kaze Hikaru appears. It's going to be replaced with Backstage at the Kabuki Theater.
Also, the editor is leaving SB. She included a small good-bye section in her monthly letter. I wonder what this will mean for the magazine...

I'm disappointed to hear that Kaze Hikaru is being replaced with another series, and I was a bit surprised when I first heard the news, but now that I've thought about it, it doesn't surprise me all that much anymore. Kaze Hikaru never struck me as the kind of series that'd necessarily appeal to a lot of people, like some other series would. I really enjoy it, but I'm also a huge fan of the historical fiction genre, and not everyone enjoys reading stories that deal with so much history.
On the bright side, however, this means that the volumes of the Kaze Hikaru will be released faster. :) That's good news, especially since I no longer read Shojo BEAT, and get a little impatient with how long it takes for each new volume of a series being serialized in one of the manga anthologies to be released.

It doesn't bother me in the least. I never liked it, and always skipped over it. I do feel for the fans, though. I was more miffed when Godchild was taken out.

I was more miffed when Godchild was taken out.(I don't know if this is getting off-topic, but...) Why WAS Godchild removed? I only heard about Godchild's removal recently, and it surprised me. I know it was really popular among fans, so it doesn't make sense that VIZ would remove it.

I'd like to know why Godchild was replaced as well. This was my third time reading Vampire Knight, and while I thought it was OK in the first issue, now I'm feeling sort of "eh" towards it. It's getting to be predictable and has a generic feel to it. (No offense to the fans - I love MeruPuri, so this manga-ka does do some nice work.)
I'm probably in the minority with a lot of my opinions on Shojo Beat though - I'm not a fan of Absolute Boyfriend, love Crimson Hero, and am a sucker for Baby & Me's cuteness. ^_^

I've heard Godchild was removed due to upcoming shonen-ai elements, but I think that was just speculation.
I'm disappointed that Kaze Hikaru was removed as I enjoyed that title. I hope the new series is good.

I think that's a sad reason to remove Godchild, but I have heard Viz seems to avoid those types of things.
I hope the new one is good. Vampire Knight is too cliche....they shouldn't have got rid of Godchild.

I like vampire, gothy type stories but damn, I love Godchild. And if Viz screws around on editing to avoid nasty letters about shonen ai, I won't read them anymore. Vampire Knight's cute and pretty...but nothing special.
I hope the magazine doesn't go downhill since the editor's leaving. And Kaze Hikaru was okay, but it could go.

Why would VIZ get such letters, anyway? AFAIK, those kinds of things tend to be obscure. If VIZ edits the shonen-ai, they will get nasty letters. So, it seems like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario.
Of course, here's my solution -
If people complain AND try to force VIZ to edit the content, VIZ should post their full names, addresses, telephone numbers (home AND work), etc. along with the content of the letters along with the text "TELL THEM WHAT YOU THINK!" - The whole purpose is to harrass and berate people who try to force VIZ to edit.

I saw the little one page advertisement for Backstage Prince in the August issue today. The art looks decent but its hard to say much about the story until I actually read it. It looks like it will be all right, but I don't expect it to be a new favorite. I'm more interested in Beauty Pop (the preview in the July issue) and La (something French sounding) (preview in August issue).
