It's Ino, and Sakura. It ends up as a tie.

Shikamaru becomes the Chuunin. Lee loses against Gaara. Naruto starts training with Jiriyia. Gaara fights Naruto wins.

To get the next rank after Genin.

It's Chuunin.

No, everyone can win, or no one can win.

They are testing their skills. Learning new lessons. Too many pass 1 part of the exam, so they have to have a preliminary fight (the fights now). The winners of these matches will go on to a final tournament. This tournament will be in front of a crowd of people made up from many villages. The point is for the villages to show what they are made of. If one village shows good promise, then other villages will come to them for Ninja 'jobs/missions'. Basically, its a way to keep peace between the villages, and is good for the economy.

Depending on how their skills are shown, a comitee can choose to elect someone to the rank of Chuunin. They can also promote no one, and they would have to take the test again the next year should they choose to do so.

When exams are over, we find that Shikamaru has been chosen to become a chuunin. The twist? He actually looses his match in the championship. It's becuase of how he handles himself in the tournament that impresses people enough to choose him for promotion.

edit: oh yeah, in the Sakura/Ino fight, they are basically even matched. they pound on each other mercilessly, both not wanting to give in. Finally, both are at their wits end, and unleash one final blow at the same time, knocking each other out and ending the match in a tie.

No info was given wrong. I just don't make well thought out posts on an anime.

Only one person getting to the next rank is wrong. I'm not trying to be a jerk, it's just a simple fact. :\
