I thought I'd have a poll to see who was horrified watching End of Evangelion. I think you know what my answer is. ;)

I'd have to vote yes cuz when Misato saved Shinji she came at the perfect time and that just sucked. It would of been better if the gun was out of ammo and the screen went black and all you hear is the sound of the gun's metal parts clicking together, then Misato came and killed them when they pulled out a different gun. Plus the whole scene with Gendo putting his hand into Rei's breast was way too creepy.

It was cool. I thought it was really horrifying. Cool but horrifying. Yes. A very astronomical movie indeed.

Not really. I watched it the first time at on an Easter Sunday, which I thought was quite fitting ^_^

You have to admit though. Kumm Susser Todd was really freaky... especially since they played it during third impact.

Truely. That's ****ed up, I mean really man, was that originally thought out? It's one of those things people can point to and say Anno did it to piss off the fans.

Well, how did you want it to end? I liked the ending. (Though I still thought it was horrifying.)

"Yes", of course.

Sitting and watching everything good be pounded down, and all the struggles rendered useless was like all the fascination of unwrapping a particularly unpleasant wound.

I wouldnt exactly say horrifying,id say "extremely deranged".

Entranced, yes. Horrified, not really. Of course, that was before I had seen the series itself, so maybe that's to be expected.

As I recall, the sum total of my reaction was "eh", but I'm really not shocked that easily. I certainly wasn't horrified, whatever else my reaction might have been.

Animation is an ineffective medium to convey horror for me. It's hard for me to get creeped out by a cartoon. The closest I've come is minor revulsion, but EoE certainly wasn't enough to gross me out. Not by a longshot.

Well, my realation ship with girls and anime are the only things that can convey horror for me. (Or screwing up a piano piece.) Reality is something that well, I just don't get horrified by. But still, I don't think horrified is the word. Maybe, flustered, or, confused, or... sorry for the universe of eva... or whatever...

I wouldn't say I was horrified after watching EoE. I was more or less shocked in the OMG sense, by it, and watched it again.

Well, how did you want it to end?

Rei hunting down and killing Gendou, not essentially everyone else. Adam, Lilith, whatever getting their *** kicked, not causing Instrumentality. SEELE brought to justice, not winning. Somewhat diffirent to the TV ending, but to me it wasn't terribly concerned about what happened as it concentrated on the main protaganists. Unlike EoE that spared no one all the details.

The proper punishment of Gendo is a right reserved entirely by the one who has official ownership of his soul.

Heh heh, yes. Paybacks, as they say, are a *****, and who better to dish it out than the biggest one of them all?

I could make a very rude joke here but since this is a family forum I'll try and restrain myself.

You know, I think most fan-fic writers have done that, too.

Heck no! EoE save Evangelion from an eternity of shame. That original ending SUCKED!

Nothing where you find out that Misato wants her dad to watch her having sex with her "Dad Incarnate" boyfriend can possibly suck.

Maybe it wasn't as depressing as Key or Grave of the Fireflies and not enough Eva fans were tempted to slit their wrists after watching it.

I was confused and frustrated when I watched it the first time. But I just watched it (or skipped through it) recently, and I have to say that after learning what I've learned around here, the movie is 100x more enjoyable.

[QUOTE=Reichu]KOMM! KOMM!!!

Sorry, lol. That reminded me of all the jokes from star trek:

CON! CON! CON! *Screams crazily.*

I just mention Star Trek on the Evangelion forum... I'm going off topic...

Jabberwok

Isn't is Khan?

But maybe that's the joke...

But ah... Horrified? Absolutely not. EoE felt like the honest ending to a show about real people, whereas EoTV felt a little too happy. I watch the end of the anime for the... well, anime ending, and I watch End of Eva when I want the realistic one, one that drives home a very real point: "Real life sucks. Deal with it."

"Real" in the sense that it takes more than a masterfully crafted exposition for one to truely understand another or themselves, and sometimes even the end of the world isn't enough...

millinniummany3

It's Komm.

EoE's lesson is more like LIFE SUCKS AND THEN YOU DIE!!!

Jabberwok
August 4th, 2006, 03:44 AM
I was specifically refering to what I assumed was a Star Trek: Wrath of Khan reference.

Perhaps: "Life sucks, then you die. You can come back later if you want, but it'll still suck. And you'll still die."

I thought I was on drugs, like when I watched the movie Black Moon.

Anno did good on shock value, being artist & weird but thats about all for me...

I've got a good one right here; I was creeped out, partly by the movie but mostly by the fact that my dad watched it whilst I was out and tried to understand it having never seen any Evangelion ever before except five minutes of the first episode when it was on TV. This led to a week long cycle of reccuring events that went something like this;

1) My dad would ask me how I could understand EoE and whether or not I was drunk when I watched it.

2) I would reply that you had to watch the whole series first to understand the movie.

3) Repeat pt.1)

4) Repeat pt.2)

5) My dads refusal to watch any cartoon ever again that I said was the least bit interesting.

It got worse still when I lent the film to a couple of my mates and ended up in the same cycle of questions with them for a further week. >_< :eww:

EoE? "Understand"? ...Does not compute.

Me and my friend watched EoE after...and then had a 2 hour discussion about what we just saw. And then watch the commentary of evil (that didn't help with the confusion). The next day I saw "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow." And since that movie all kinds of sucked, I just sat their trying to comprehend what I saw the previous day.

Having gathered more data - yes, that's horrified (shocked, numbed) by EoE; as opposed to squicked, as by the *ahem* "manicure" scene in Higurashi np Naku Koro ni ep#17

Nothing horrified me. Its hard to explain. I was floored by the Toji vs Dummy Plug fight but seeing Asuka die was more like, "ehh, more blood and gore." I think the problem is that I liked Rei. Asuka was always hard on Rei so seing her get messed up was like karma almost. Rei actually kinda seized control of her own fate and that was cool. Misato... ehh, i'm whatever when it comes to Misato. I felt worse for her in the directors cut of the episode where Kaji dies.

REALLY, I hated the dub for the movie. Thats what makes me kinda like, "ehh whatever" for some of the characters. I feel worse for them for stuff that took place during the show than the film, even though everything in the film resulted in their death. But the dub just had me in a bad mood so I kinda disconnect emotionally from it.

One thing that greatly upsets me to no end is this:

WHY IS HE CHOKING THIS CHICK OUT? You coulda bought back the entire planet... but you don't. You choose to bring back one person... just to choke them out. LOL, and then cry over them. I understand the crying cuz its like how else would you explain why everyone else on the planet no longer exist. You probally can't so you do'nt something thats speechless... like crying. Ok, I get that. But its the choke out. You kiss this chick while she's sleeping, you work together day in and day out in a life threatening job, she saves your life multiple times, you save her life multiple times. You should have alot of respect for her. Haha, but dude beats off over her when she's unconscious and hospitalized, doesn't help her when she comes out of the coma and is doing her best to save YOU, she dies and you go crazy... then you bring her back just to choke her out.

WTF? That has irked me everytime someone mentions EVA to me. I love EVA with all my heart but that one scene has me like, "what the hell?". Why he chokes her out and why he didn't bring back everyone else (like in the show). I don't get it, haha. I don't get it and it upsets me each time i think about it.

Shinji didn't have anything to do with Asuka coming back (besides making it possible to come back).

You kiss this chick while she's sleeping
He stopped when she said "Mama".

The last global sysop style choice Shinji could make was to crash Instrumentality. Once the AT Fields were up again, and GNR was crashing and burning, everyone else has their own individual choice to make.

Asuka was the only one who wanted out who emerged anywhere near Shinji, maybe because she knew how they parted in Instrumentality. Meanwhile being alone on the deserted shore seems to have left Ikari-kun playing a few cards short of a full deck.
