View Full Version : Quote Bug

There seems to be a bug. Everytime I quote someone in a post, the longer I make a post, the longer it takes for the message to be submitted and shown in the forums. Take it from me, I am always helping people and making these long descriptive posts, and it can take as long as 20 minutes for a 500 word post to be shown. It's always happening, and when it does, its such a nuisance, and I get worried my post I worked so hard on would be permanently lost. I have no choice but to make my posts shorter or find other alternatives to make sure the person I was intending to talk too gets my message; otherwise this will happen. On the other hand, when I don't quote, my posts get submitted within seconds. This matter concerns me, and it would be great if you can tell me why this is happening!! I hope I'm not alone in this.

I'd like to tell you upfront I don't have an answer to this, but I have the same problem. Do you use internet explorer? It seems that the problem occurs the most when using the web browser, since when I use Opera it works fine.

Also, it seems to freeze while sending if there’s a lot of HTML text in the message, such as quoting, changing colors, spoilers, etc.

What I do with long messages now is copy them before I send them, just in case the browser freezes.

That's the best advice you can give besides finding a browser in which this issue doesn't occur. If it's a lengthy post I always copy/paste it elsewhere just incase. I've also had times in the past where it took a very long time for a post to go through and this was usually when editing a post. There have been other times where I couldn't edit a specific post because it would crash my browser. I no longer have these problems, but they were indeed annoying. I use the Maxthon browser btw and haven't had a problem since.

Yes, I use Internet Explorer, and I do copy/paste my lengthy work via Microsoft Word just in case. If it's only Internet Explorer causing these problems, could it be that this web browser is not fully compatable with vBulletin 3 (or at least this version of it)?!? I know I didn't have this problem back when AN ran on vB2. :|

Same exact problem. And same exact solution. :D

I've had it happen to me on some of my longer posts (yes, I've exceeded the 10K limit), so I make sure I copy the text of my message to a simple text program in case my post fails.

I can't say I've noticed that it happens more when I quote someone versus when I don't quote them, however. I've also never had a post take more than... say, 30 seconds to register, except around 3:00am in the morning when I'd guess the DB is backed up. I've almost never had more than a few seconds of lag in the middle of the day, no matter how long my posts are.

I use Safari, but I don't know that this has anything to do with it.

Maybe it has to do with your internet connection? I have a 600 kb/s cable modem, so I've never encountered this problem even during my lenghtier posts (though it did lag for a bit). I surmise it's the amount of information that has to be sent that determines the time it takes. Traffic on the site and other similar factors may also affect it.

Thanks for your help everyone!! I'll consider everything that has been said in this thread so far. As for my internet connection, I use Road Runner High Speed Internet (Cable Modem) and its very fast!! As it was mentioned, it just may be my Internet Explorer web browser. Of course this only occurs when I try to quote making lengthy posts. The small posts usually go smoothly, and I never have had problems posting without quotes. I've also never had problems such as change color coding, direct linking, and other posting utilities as far as I remember. I hope to hear an answer from an admin about this matter, and of course more replies.

^ Can you post a link to one or two of the posts that you distinctly remember causing a long delay? That might help track down the problem.

I use DSL and have a similar problem. When I quote something big, or have a large response, most of the time AOL freezes and I have to close it. Once in a while it will freeze for a second, then makes the post.

I think it has something to do with the browser. Everyone says AOL and IE suck, so I guess that's why it does it on mine. Since you use IE, maybe that's why?

I had a similar problem. Whenever I write a lengthy post in a quote to someone's post, not only my IE browser crashes but it also results in a new spyware intruding my computer.

So I had to copy and paste my lengthy posts into my quotes instead of writing it in a quote for a long time.

I used to have a similar problem back on vB2 using IE. Since I use Firefox now I can't say if it still occurs, since I've not experienced it at all since (and even if I did going back retains the post).

I could of sworn you made this post in another thread as well (one that made more sense for it to be in). Not sure if I'd ever seen this happen besides maybe in merged threads.
