Viz Kongousouha translation

Just when I thought the dub couldn't get more pathetic. It appears (by ANN's Inuyasha English episode title list (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=159&page=25)) that Inuyasha's final attack, Kongousouha ("Diamond Spear Blast"), has been re-titled "Adamant Barrage". Give me a break, that's almost as bad as "Backlash Wave". Why does Viz insist on Americanizing the show, and on making up whole new names for things rather than actually translating things? Even "Diamond Barrage" would've been better than "Adamant Barrage". That just sounds wimpy and corny to me. I don't mean to offend anyone, and sorry if I have, I just wanted to vent this. ^^;

From Middle English, a hard precious stone, from Old French adamaunt, from Latin adams, adamant-, from Greek, unconquerable, hard steel, diamond.

So is there any point to this thread besides pointlessly *****ing about the dub? I mean Viz's localization has been questionable in the past but clearly this is NOT a bad translation by any means.

Ack, I stand corrected. ^^;; :redface: I thought it meant something completely different. I guess that'll teach me to double check in the future (it probably doesn't help that I'm tired today as well). Well, still not a great translation, but at least that's not a bad one. Still not excuse for Backlash Wave, but I'm glad to see this isn't as bad as I thought.

I'll give it to Viz, they did their homework this time; thanks for the research LD.

Why they chose a word like 'adamant' over 'diamond' probably has to do with the original word itself 'koungou' [金剛]. When I hear 'diamond', I immediately think 'precious stone', but when I hear [金剛], I start thinking of hard rocks/surfaces, crushing, even - almost along the lines of adamant.

Now, my question is, Inu Yasha's final attack is Kougousouha [金剛槍破], why is it referencing a spear? Does he morph the Tessaiga/Tetsusaiga into something larger pushing it into the polearm catagory?

He materalizes a group of diamond spears using the Tessaiga's power and they launch at Inuyasha's enemy IIRC.
