This might be the only dub where other VA's from more than one group is in the dub. I'm rather surprised when I heard the voices. Sometimes VA's from two groups will work together but never 4 groups.

Of course theres the normal FUNi voices.

Then we have VA's from ADV which FUNi has been using for a while now since both companies are in Texas. Although I noticed they used a lot more VA's from ADV than any other dubs that FUNi released. They even used VA's that have never worked with FUNi before or hardly anything such as Tiffany Grant & Christine Auten.

Ed & Al's father is voiced by Scott McNeil who is from Ocean Group(Canada).

And in the episode 35, Johnny Yong Bosch & Carrie Savage voice the main roles of that episode(which also stars Lust). Johnny Yong Bosch & Carrie Savage work with Bang Zoom! & other dub groups in California.

FUNi must have really went out of their way. One reason could be that the show has such a huge cast & they diddn't want to re-use VA's. Although I do find it odd they'd hire Johnny Yong Bosch & Carrie Savage who are highly acclaimed dub VA's for such small roles as main characters of one episode.

Anyone else notice this? Are there any other VA's you noticed from other groups?

PS- This thread isn't for a dub debate or rants.

I noticed that this dub was particularly well done. In fact... I can't even watch this show in japanese anymore. I like Ed better in english.(I noticed this while trying to watch the movie subbed.) O_o I wish they treated more anime like this.

Funimation has always done some pretty decent dubs (as far as dubs go), but none were as noticeably impressive as this one. I wonder why they worked so hard on FMA.

Can't say I prefer it over the Japanese but I like the dub. Vic Mignogna's voice of Ed really grew on me. But my favorite roles are Chris Patton as Greed(too bad he isn't in it more) & Laura Bailey as Lust.

Yes.. it could have been the luck of the draw. Maybe the VAs just had good chemistry with their characters.

I hadn't noticed this. I'm surprised by the mix of actors, too. Maybe some of the VA's were just available, and needed the money?
A bit OT: crystalacids.com has some interesting info on an upcoming documentary from Bang Zoom on the whole VA business. Looks like it will have some good info on the whole English VA scene....

Its a good sign. They just broadened the voice actors they'll work with to people outside their own company. Dubs will get alot better if companies don't mind hiring people from other companies to do voice work if their voice fits the character better than people from their own dubbing company.
