View Full Version : Anyone into Cosplay
Kokysho Foxie
July 23rd, 2006, 03:20 PM
I personally have been into cosplay for a very long time. I sometimes even roleplay my cosplay character. After collecting different clothing, I have found that I have developed my own style. Anyone who just got to know me understand that I am very much into kitsunes. Decent 8-9 tails, decent cat-like ears, that is pretty much it other than a collar with a nice silver bell on it. I go around dressed like this even when I go out at night, I even had my friend draw a picture of how I picture myself in anime. We called him Kokysho Foxie. It is a mix of threads and is pretty cool. Is anyone else into cosplay like this....Meow

To answer the question, yes, people here do like to cosplay, myself included. That is why there is an entire forum dedicated to those that really like to cosplay.

I'd love to try cosplay, I just don't know where to start for a lot of it and don't know how to sow or anything. Plus I'm just lazy and also want to spend enough of my money on anime, manga and the like that I wouldn't have much open for cosplaying. But maybe one of these days...

I am very much into cosplay, since 2004. I have a few cosplays in-progress, and a couple finished. Been to one convention, and hoping to go to more.
You can check out my cosplay site, located in my signature. There's not alot there, because I re-did layout two weeks ago.

I've never Cosplayed, but I'd really like to if I can ever find a character I could pull off really well. I wear glasses so I'm not sure who the heck I could be.

I wear glasses and contacts (I would just wear contacts but it's not good for my eyes for me to wear them all day), so I would be ok. ^^
There are noteable anime characters with glasses though.
EmberAlchemist0
July 23rd, 2006, 08:11 PM
Well I can't wear contacts...:(
If my hair was blonde or I could find a blonde wig I could definately pull of a Riza Hawkeye with glasses.

July 23rd, 2006, 08:14 PM
The only female characters with glasses that come to mind are the character from FMA who can remember everything she reads (I forget her name), and the main character from Read or Die, but I can't speak much for her since I haven't seen it. ^^;
But I'm sure that there are more. And it would be fine to cosplay as anyone you want and still wear glasses. ;)

You dont have to limit yourself to a character with glasses. Be whichever character you want to be. I wear glasses too, and I have done characters that dont use them. :)

I might actually look like Scheska if my hair was shorter. and not so curly. Once I save up some money from work I am definately buying a FMA Military outfit with all the extras. Even if I don't use them for a con I'll still have them. :)

I've never been interested in cosplay. I'm too shy to try it myself. Though it is [sometimes] fun to watch others cosplay (especially when it's your favorite series).
Although, I doubt I'll ever consider trying it any time soon. Then again, I haven't been a serious anime fan for very long...so that may change (but I doubt it).

I heard about cosplay once on the radio. They said it was really geeky.
I really think most cosplayers (especially DBZ/Naruto/ANYTHING FROM SHONEN JUMP) are the weapons used against anime fandom. When a person hates anime, they got the position from seeing badly done cosplayers. Like Sailor Bubba.
But then again, everyone loves Star Wars, and even those people have bad cosplayers.

I remember when I first started going to conventions. I told my self I would never Cosplay. As years went out and conventions came and gone. I finally got to the point where i wanted to try it. For my first cosplay, I had to go as Takuto from Full Moon. I can't express in words how much I love this show, so I knew it had to be from it. Must say I sure did feel weird the first day of cosplaying, but as the day went on. I began to grow to like it.

Yes, cosplaying is fun. I almost went to convention with mine. I cos'ed as "Bantanen' fro Hyper Police, actually had the ears and tail made professionally. The rest of the costume was easy, just buy really decent teath and cutom fit at home ( kinda pricy though), and a leather coat, jeans, sneakers, and some altered sunglasses.
I went to the con and waited in line, eveyone liked my outfit, even if I am kinda heavy. When I finally got to the front after almost two hours, I realized that I forgout my wallet. SAD!
I ran back to my car 13 blocks away, and it rain like the sky personally hated me-soaked wolf....and no wallet. I left it at home 43 miles away.....
Anyway I finally got home, got out of my soaked costume, got wallet, went and bought several anime and a pizza, and went home to feel sorry for myself.
8 and half hours gone for nuthin, but I will try again at the next convention.
Also lookin to make a Trike like the one in Hyper Police that "Natsume" uses.

That really sucks. Hopefully next one will be better for you. Reminds me of my friend, It was the first day of the convention, and we just arrived there. We all went to atm to withdraw money for registration. When it was his turn, he checked his balance and it was -50.00. Luckly he had enough money on him for his registration.

Soooo...
What are you making?
You know, I have given it som thought, but a lot of the cosplay outfits that I see (non professional) seem floppy. And I am guessing that the material is not heavy enough or that there are not enough layers. When you go out and buy clothes (regular everyday), they are thicker and sturdier than the materials that some individuals (myself included) buy at the fabric store. So, a lot of those unreal long and tall collars or flaring clothing seen in anime and manga, should pobally be made with something thicker or stiffer. Also maybe use som reinforcing materials. I bet many people know someone who works in a warehouse, ask them to bring you some of the "pallet banding material". It comes in metal and plastic, of differing widths. Plastic can give arching spring affects, and metal can be bent to give angles and support to tall collar tips. Just be sure to cut and trim everything carefully and the cover the metal cut ends with electrical tape to keep it from damaging you or your clothes. And be careful not cut yourself.
hiei_kurama27
November 13th, 2008, 08:51 AM
^Or instead of metal, you can go the much safer route and use interfacing. ;)
tiedupinknots
November 13th, 2008, 09:02 AM
Cool, just wiki'ed interfacing, never new about it. Just did other things with different materials. Always good to learn new stuff.Thanks. But the plastic straping still works great for other stuff.:)

November 13th, 2008, 04:25 PM
^ It's good if your going for a basic resemblance. The ears and tail are really cute and look well made. :) But.. your coat doesn't have the fuzzy collar, the gloves are the wrong color and style, and the white shirt underneath doesn't have a v-neck.
The white shirt is easy, you just need a basic crew-neck t-shirt. You can get fuzzy fabric at the fabric store and attach it to your jacket (with velcro if you want it removable). The gloves would be a little harder, (even I suck at making gloves) so practice makes perfect. Or buy a tan pair and modify them.
These next two are just little things, hair style and the glasses but you don't need to worry much about those. They would finish up the costume quite nicely though.

November 14th, 2008, 06:48 AM
Thanks for the info. :) I know about the glove style being off, but I didn't know about the color. I based this off the manga mostly, and in it his gloves are black.
I'll have to get and watch the anime to get more clues and design info. I would have made the ears and tail darker/mixed shades of grey, like in the manga, if someone hadn't told me otherwise. :P
But I can do the whole tan glove thing, and will work on the other stuff. Have to see about dyeing my hair black too....
As for the glasses, I modified a pair to grip at the temples, as in the manga it seemed that Bantanen's glasses never went past there. I guess I'll need to buy some black smoked plexiglass and cut and bend it to match the anime/manga exactly.
This all sounds like so much fun!!!!Thanks again for the help! :D

I see. I didn't know about the manga, and I just searched for images from the anime. But if some parts are correct from the manga, by all means keep it. :)

November 14th, 2008, 07:16 AM
Oh, don't get me wrong, the parts in question still need work. But, as this is my first (anime/manga) outfit that I put together, I should have researched more.
I'll be doing tons of that for the trike/sidecar bike from hyperpolice that I'm going to build. So, I should do the same for my costume. Again, thanks.
