I make signatures all the time. On my forum, I allow picture signatures and so I run my own 'siggy shop' for those who cannot make their own.

Basically, you first need a stock picture (or a few stock pictures--depending on what you want your siggy to look like). I usually find mine online...or just pop in a DVD and save a frame or two. Now, make sure your stock picture (regardless of its origin) is at least THE SAME SIZE or BIGGER THAN the size of the siggy you wish to make. Trying to enlarge a picture creates problems--such as blurriness and poor image quality. Start out with a big enough picture to work off of (such as 600 x 300 pixels, which can then be resized to any dimension smaller than that).

Open up photoshop (or other photo-editing program), and open up your stock picture. You should have a basic design in mind for what you want to accomplish with your signature (did you want it to look abstract, grungy, classic, etc?).

I usually just use one stock picture, creating new layers (and changing the layer option to one that will allow the stock picture to shine though) to fill in colors (picked from the original stock picture in order to make sure everything will mesh well together), then tweaking those layer's blending options in order to overlay pattern. Then, I just decrease the opacity of the eraser tool and start removing some of the pattern in places (such as the body of the characters, etc) and blurring what remains. I usually end up with anywhere between two to seven different colored layers, each containing different patterns and styles.

Make sure to flatten your image before saving it to jpeg. I usually also keep a psd file of the original siggy design (before adding my text) so that I can change any element, depending on the personal taste of the siggy's intended owner.

Here are some examples of my work:

I have in the past, but usually they were quite small in comparison to those posted above (around 100-125X250-300) so finding images that were able to be cropped and streched to fit into a small space was rather difficult at times. As for how to make them Shiroiyuki has given a pretty good explanation along with some very good examples. I think the biggest thing is planning. before you even open PS (of whatever your progam of choice is) it's a good idea to already have in mind subject(s), style, theme, and a general idea of what you would like the overall finished product to look like, not that this is set in stone, often times the best sigs come from tweaking your original idea. Also don't be afraid to try things that you may not think will look good, sometimes when you think something will look good (or bad) in your mind it actually is the opposite when you actually see it.

Number one, it's best to make sigs in some Image Editing software. If you want a sig, I can go ahead and try to make you one. I know my way around PS pretty well. Although you have to have an idea in mind for the sig, (Pic of anime character, or words) and then do it.

I'll post some of mine, but I'm at work, not at a home computer, I can't post them. But I shall, soon!

Sure, I could make one for you! But, I'm having problems getting the page with your picture to come up. I'll do a little search and see if I can't find another picture of Ryu Hayabusa for you. I'll post it here (in this thread), or just PM it to you when I'm finished ^_^.

Oh, haha...forgot to ask you a question White Hell.

Did you want any text/special add-ins to be included with your signature? Your name perhaps?

If so, where per se did you want the text to go (in the upper left corner, near the bottom, etc)? Personalized signatures usually have text--but not in all cases ^_^

EDIT:
Here is what I have so far (any text you want can be added no problem). Please tell me what you think--if you would like a different picture (sorry the link you provided doesn't work for me for some reason. My computer is....gay....), just say so--it is no problem! Also, if the current dimensions are not what you like--just tell me and I'll be happy to resize it for you.

You didn't say if you wanted anything Special. If you do, just say so.

EDIT: Have you played ninja gaiden before, I'm looking for some good pics of ryu in his ashtar costume.

Alright then. No prob. I could do a better one if I tried, but working all day, and then getting ready to work out kinda leave your mind not in the mood to Photoshop.
