Here's a couple of pictures of my new cat KaiKai!
I've never had a cat of my own, and since I've just moved into my first house with my girlfriend, we went straight to the pet shop and found our little cutie!!

awww..she's too cute!! How old is she? I have two cats..one male, one female. They're full grown though. Pekachu (my female cat) is about 14 years old..and Amuro (my male cat) is about 5 years old.

the kittens can be a handful tho! ^_^

She is adorable!!! I absolutely love cats. Had one years ago, maybe will get another one in the future.
Also does she have 5 colours in her coat? It looks like it, but I can't be sure. Some people consider such cats to be an omen of good luck. So I'd say great choice. Congratulations!

I love how she's just sitting there in the second pic. Is she looking at something, or just there?

She's so cute. Her fur is very nice colors. I used to have pet cats, but I had to give them away when I moved to a different house.

*obviously an animal lover*

I'm more of a dog person myself...but I love kittens and cats too. :) (I even had a cat...until a few years ago.)

I currently have a 9 year old female cat and if there's one thing you have to watch out for is its own cuteness. Especially if it's a smart one. It will try to entice you, liquefy your soul out of cuteness and meow your ears till they bleed just to get what she wants.

If you have a mosquito screen on your door, be ready to see it shreded after she claws on it to signify she wants to get in. You don't really need to cat-proof the house, though. Note the materials she uses to claw on before deeming that such or such surface needs proofing or not.

Despite all that, cats still stare all big-eyed at you and you, knowing fully how evil and independent these creatures can be, still submit to its will.

<3 Cats.

Just don't declaw the cat. It's cruel (they have a desire to scratch and if they can't they'll go nuts) and it could lead to infection. Also, get the cat "fixed". not to nitpick but you should've adopted it from a shelter. Too many are in them now, hence the "fixing" suggestion.

my mom had a declawed cat. it was fine. as a matter of fact it could still do everything an outside cat could. it never went crazy or anything. it still sharpened where the claws were and it was just as calm as it always was. the most suprising thing was any fights it got into it won. that cat could still defend itself better than most cats. i have never seen a declawed cat go crazy because of lack of claw sharpening. all declawed cats i've seen were the same as a cat with claws

Is she a calico? (those are usualy female...)

She's without a doubt a calico. And no, it's nearly impossible for a male cat to have three colors. This is because the genes for fur color on a cat is in the sexual X chromosome. Each X can carry up to two colors (black/brown, white, red). A normal male has an XY which can only cover 1 or two colors. Females have XX which can cover the three colors. If you ever see a male calico cat, he's a weird freak of nature and he's probably sterile.

We once had a male cat who I swear had three colors and he was seriously mentally retarded. He had an abnormal looking face, VERY small body for a male cat, no neck and a stubby short tail. His legs were also very short. I swear, the poor thing looked like a cat version of Down syndrome. He sadly dissapeared though.

I have lots of cats. My lap's evil enemy named Pollo is on top of me right now. She's even clawing my thigh with her claws. ¬¬ She's 10 years old and going strong.. and slightly on the chubby side.

--

Don't declaw the cat if it's male. We used to have a male siamese cat named Baby who had his claws removed. The poor little guy was beaten up everyday by other male cats and he couldn't defend himself. Once he came back home with a huge ball of puss in his neck. It was pretty expensive to get the abscess removed.

I would agree with this. I've read about the process and results of declawing, and it's very grotesque.

It's such a cute little kitty! I LOVE cats. The sad thing is, I can't have them because I am allergic to them. I've had about 13 outdoor cats in my short life, and I have bad luck with them - they all die or turn up missing. It's sad. I better not get anymore, hah. I'll just stick with my dog.

Have fun with your kitty. Kitties are awesome. They DAZZLE me.

todays weather around here reminded me to keep your cats inside! even outside cats try to keep them in as much as you can during the summer. my cat*the poor thing* was actually panting and i had to carry him upstairs and help him drink water because he was so over heated he wouldn't have been able to get upstairs and he just wasn't cooling down just panting on the floor. so a friendly reminder. keep your kitties cool!

Tell me about it. Our cat Fluffy Butch (I know, why in the hell would we name our cat Fluffy Lesbian.. I didn't name her). Well, she's so damn fluffy that she stays inside whenever it's hot. Poor thing can't tolerate hot weather very well. Fortunately this city is so cold that she doesn't have to worry about it that much.

Shes got tiger style stripes and, yeah, I think shes got about 5 different colours in her coat. I'm glad everyone loves her as much as I do. Shes only 10 weeks old but those pics were taken when she was about 8 weeks.

I would never declaw her. Thats like taking a cats shoes off. They can't move about half as well.

Declawing a cat is one thing, but declawing a skunk, that's like 10x more horrible. Cats have the ability to retract their claws, but skunks... their claws are more like fingers than actual finger nails. That's true mutilation. :( But, this isn't about skunks - it's about cats, now isn't it?

First off, Congratulations Dij, cats are wonderful! Dogs are equally wonderful (for totally different reasons), but this isn't about dogs, now is it?

Just a Few Tips for the New Cat Owner (If you haven't researched, that is :naughty: ):

1) As a general rule, for a two-story house/apartment, you'll need two litter boxes per cat (one upstairs, one downstairs). And, avoid those wacky litter box covers... They stink-up the litter box, and cats are too clean to use smelly restrooms. If you want to teach your kitten to use the human toilet, I can help with that too. Flushing it, that'll be challenging, but I'm sure you'll learn to work around it.
2) The whole "Outdoor Cat" thing. Personally, I'd avoid it. There's cars, there's dogs, there's raccoons/opossums/other cats, there's FAIDS!!! Yes, Feline AIDS, and well I've never met a cat that practices Safe Sex. But, that's just me.
3) Try to socialize your kitten while she's still young. Introduce her to a lot of different persons and animals. Best to do it while she's young.
4) Spaying. No-brainer...
5) Scratching Posts are a must. There may be some unwanted scratching, but that's easily remedied... SPRAY BOTTLES!!! *Cough* Yeah... there's other stuff, too.

Psssh, all this about declawing being so cruel.

I must say, I prefer a cat who can't scratch up furniture and sever my arteries. Really could care less if my cat "can't move nearly as well".

specially since in my experiance it does nothing negative to the cat. now choppin the kitties balls off*neutering* that changes them. they usually mope for a few weeks>.>

yay kitty!!! It is so cute. I have had so many pet cats but everytime we move we seem to lose them. Once I had a grown cat and a puppy at one time and the puppy used the cat's litter box. We had to buy her a new one even after it was emptyed and washed she would not use it. The dog however from then on used the litter box go figure. Currently my roomate found a kitten and named is Muna (sp) which according to her means to conceal in aribic. She is a grey tabby and my roomate found her stuck under a drink machine. Unfortunatly she has feline Lukemia. It isn't bad though however she can never go outside and her life will be short.

so can nuetering. so can a cat just being outside. every surgery on every animal can lead to infection. And the vet gives instructions so your cat doesn't get an infection. if your a dumbass and don't follow the instrustions well guess what. your cats gonna get an infection. however if you care about your cat and follow the instructions your cat is not gonna have any complications at all

It's always the street cats you find in garbage cans and strange places that make the friendliest pets. Too bad she has such a horrid disease. It's chronic too and can't really be cured.

--

I've had most of my old cats operated on and only one of them suffered from a post surgery problem: partial herniation of some of the intestine at the surgical wound. The vet told us that because of the cat's age, it's not really worth the troubles to operate on her again unless it becomes an emergency.

I never did anything seriously special for my cats after an operation. I always left them resting in my bedroom while the drugs wore off. The first night they never ate so I didn't even bother. I let them sleep on my bed with me and the following day I let them wander around the house as they please. They are still so groggy that they don't even get into trouble. In fact, taking care of one of my cats Ardilla somewhat made her have a huge infatuation towards me. The little tripod cat demanded me to let her sleep on my bed last night. Never say no to a cat when they are willing to get some love. She was huddled in a tight ball next to my head the whole time.
