Well, he's very annoying in the anime, especially the filler; you can blame the writers for that. He's not so annoying in the manga though. I really wish the story could focus more on other characters though, especially Team Gai.

He's gotten better in the anime too-non filler section at least. I don't know if people find himn annoying because he stupid (which is essential for new info introduction) or because he obnoxious but not in the cool way that Sasuke is. He's getting better that's all that really matters.

Well, he's better than Sasuke. Naruto is far from my favorite character and the way he acts and everything revolving around him sometimes get annoying. But he is the main character so what are you going to do?

I like Team Gai, but they are sort of unimportant now and that's probably why they were such a minor part of the Rescue Gaara arc. Neji already solved his issues with the main house back in Part I. Lee has already proven that hard work can match genius. Tenten...well she didn't have much to do to begin with. Gai does have his thing with Kisame. Team 8 has not been seen in ages and even though Team 10 is in this arc, it seems that only Asuma and Shikamaru will be major players.

It seems like Kishimoto is narrowing down the characters(which means some old favorites get ignored) and only focusing on the ones he feels are important.

The word "reading" implies that you don't watch the anime. The phrase "datte ba yo" will make your urge to kill rise.

I think what's annoying about Naruto is mostly that he is so hyper dense. He's very impulsive and mainly, like DarkNataku said, he still hasn't acknowledged Hinata's feelings, even after all of this time. Ahou. ><;;;
"Dattebayo" doesn't bother me, I actually find it interesting and kind of funny that he has his own way of saying things like that. However, I'm sure "believe it! believe it! believe it!" would drive me dippy, but thankfully I don't watch the dub, and have no plans to. ;)

I've never found Naruto annoying in the series even once. Maybe he IS in the fillers but i haven't watched them so :P
I found much more annoying the Uchiha kid^^ Ok be a Sasuke fan and point a gun at me, I just couldn't stand his "I must be alone and gain power" and " I don't need friends, i'm an avenger" attitude. I liked him at first but later...NUTS ;)
And Sakura...-.- LOL that girl xD Well she's kinda ok now but back then...She was very sloppy, obsessed with Sasuke and hurting Naruto without a reason, and she was really weak too.

I hear the dub is very mediocre, but that's largely up to opinion. But on the bright side, the show didn't get a 4Kids treatment at all (God forbid! X_X), and I hear the edits are fairly small. This hardly qualifies as slaughter. Besides, we're getting uncut DVD box sets (and they sound like near perfect releases). What more could you ask for?

If you want to talk slaughter, then talk about what 4Kids did to great shows like Pocket Monsters, Toukyou Mew Mew, and One Piece. ><;;;;;

I happen to agree with FMS (as I do with so many other things). I have seen the US version...and ouch. Makes him so much more kill-worthy. In the subs, his subborn-ness is annoying, but that is just his personality. Not annoying enough to kill him for :P

But hey, sure he's annoying to some at first, but it's just one of those anime characters that you either learn to love, or hate until the end of time...end of story.

The english voice actor very much so. The japanese voice of naruto, no. And I have an essay long thing to read that goes into detail about that. ^_^ I was like writing 9 million words a minute when I wrote it.. don't feel like posting it though.. let's just say there is a nice range in the japanese voice actor version of naruto. He is suppose to be annoying but when he gets serious about something in the series people around him take him seriously and it's convincing to the audience that the characters would take him seriously. In the English version he never sounds cool, when he gets serious about anything he sounds like a annoying whinny bitch.

I find his techniques REALLY irritating (surely he knows something OTHER than Kage bunshi no jutsu!)... I dont mind his attitude it makes it fun, but just the fighting technique annoys the hell outta me because he always fights and uses the same move.

I don't think American Naruto is THAT bad. Just the translation of dattebayo is annoying. Pre-time jump Naruto was annoying. I understood his reason for being so obnoxious, and I pitied him because of that reason, but that didn't stop him from being a complete knuckleheaded brat. Nor did it stop me from wanting to throw something at the TV screen every time I heard "Believe it!" come out of that kid's mouth...

Post-time jump Naruto (manga only), on the other hand, is not so annoying. In fact, I actually like him. His intelligence level did not raise by that much, but his maturity did, and that makes all the difference. He is still stubborn, and his stubborness still makes him stupid, but not as stupid, and not nearly as often.

Seriously, though... for all that Sakura is under-utilized, don't ya think that Ino does quite a bit less in the story? I don't see Ino being trained by a member of the legendary sannin.

Of all the girls in the series, Ino certainly does the least. Sakura's biggest problem is wasted potential. She could be really good if Kishimoto bothered to actually do anything with her. Hinata is the same, though to a lesser extent (in part 1 anyway; I haven't read scanlations so I can't comment on part 2).

I don't think Naruto is annoying. He's one of the only characters that make's the show very funny to watch. Without him the show becomes way too serious. And besides, he's there to be a comical relief most of the time. :)

Sometimes he is for me. His 'silent, cool guy' attitude gets to the point of stupid at certain moments and makes me LOL.
Like, sometimes, they'll go into Sakura and Naruto's thoughts, but when it's his turn....there is nothing.

I only watched like the first 4-5 episodes dubbed & the first 13 subbed & besides the whole "believe it" line they actually sound very similar to me.
