Guu a parody of Maya Natsume?

I recently watched the third volume of Hare+Guu and noticed that the usual, somewhat Chibi Guu suddenly become adult to kill a bear. It was very reminicent of Maya Natsume from Tenjho Tenge. Was this a parody of that show? I know the Guu Anime came before Tenjho Tenge, but the Ten Ten manga was before the anime, and I couldn't find a date on the guu manga.

I won't rule out the possibility, but I also think it's just coincidence that Guu and TenTen both feature small blond girls that enlarge their size.
