No, he's right. Xenosaga games are crap. I don't mean to flame, I'm stating the truth. They suck. They're lame. They're all cut scenes. They have lackluster gameplay. They're BORING.

Run a search for Xenosaga and see why I dislike it so much.

The whole franchise reeks of that "what the hell were they thinking" feeling. The cutscenes are very long. Now don't get me wrong. Long, enjoyable CG scenes can be a good thing.

Problem is the pace of events in the CG is painfully, painfully slow. So slow after even the first ten minutes of them you're left thinking, "Why are they drawing this out so much?" Not to mention the first game phased out music for most of the CG, which only aided in curing insomnia.

Then you finally get to the gameplay, and it's, well, not very good. At all. And somehow it feels like it moves at a dreadfully slow pace too. The game maps are overly large and its a chore to traverse through towns.

I want to like Xenosaga. I really, really do. It really does feel like it's making a v-line into the events leading into Xenogears, which I loved. Not to mention the core storyline of Xenosaga isn't what you'd call bad. That itself only antagonizes the problems though when it's a bit more detail oriented than your average RPG, and you force gamers to take several year breaks between chapters. That's one way to kill the suspense and interest in it right there.

These are problems that should have been very, very apparent. Something went pretty screwy during the planning of Xenogears.

chaos kills a Gnosis with just one touch and they are known for their nigh-invincible status in the galaxy.

Shion?

"oh its just something he can do, he couldn't possibly be some superbeing or anything, lolololol"

I like the cutscenes because I don't like having alot of scripted cutscenes in most rpgs. I can't wait for Xenosaga 3. The 2nd one was allitle slow but it looks alot faster in the 3rd and many of the character are being changed back to the first one.

Heh, I remember that.

Chaos : *kills Gnosis w/one hand*

Shion : How did you do that...

Chaos : Oh, it's just something I can do. We're all born w/something only we can do.

Shion : Okay.

once it was announced the original story writer was leaving during part 2 there was no more hope for this series. The first game wasn't too bad, just a little too easy and much shorter than it let itself on to be. It gave me hope for good improvments but part 2 just totally killed it.

Yeah, that was so cool how Xenosaga's plot was arbitrarily and randomly generated by the game on the fly OH SHI-

Do you see a problem with your post?

Of course it's scripted. Cutscenes are inherently scripted, they don't exist without instructions for what happens and what's said.

Unless you're saying that Xenosaga 2's cutscenes were just models standing around for 3 hours at a time.

Scripted cutscenes are the cutscenes w/o voices and just letters and no voices.

I enjoyed the first game (though it wasn't anywhere near Xenogears level) but the second game was horrible. I'm still looking forward to Episode III and I've preordered it) but I don't have very high expectations plot-wise. Between the scriptwriter leaving after episode II and the series being cut from 5 or 6 games to 3, this probably won't have a great ending.

They're alright, I mostly play them for the story. Chaos is my favorite character and I'm pissed how he's barely in the first two. But it seems like he will play a bigger role in 3.

I didn't mind the story of episode II, but I absolutely despised the battle system.

The battle system was downright funny and fun. Defeating bosses in 1 combo is bloody fun. ^_^

Always glad to meet another fan of the series. The first Episode, Der Wille zur Macht, is one of my all-time favorite games and I honestly think it's a testament to just how powerful, and entertaining, games can be. The characters, battle-system, cinema, score and scope of the thing is, literally, "awesome." And, as always, we got KOS-MOS out of the deal!

The second Episode, Jenseits von Gut und Böse, hasn't quite managed to capture what I loved about the first one in terms of the gameplay and some of the small things that made the first stick out as well (and while the zone feature can be effective, it's just not an awful lot of fun to me). The story continues to be good, but there's a monotonous undertone to many of the tasks, and even the battle system that sucks too much of the entertainment value out of the game. I've also got to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of the visual overhaul it recieved.

But I've got high hopes for the final Episode: Also sprach Zarathustra. From all I've seen, heard, and read so far -- the series looks to be returning to it's roots in more ways than one. Tetsuya Takahashi still oversees his creation, and it appears that with the near universal dissatisfaction with the second game that his presence will be felt to a much greater degree, that the developers have learned from some of their mistakes in the second episode, and that the final installment will be much more reminiscent of what worked so well in the first game. At least, that's my perception of the information and previews we've seen so far.

Sure hope that's the case!
