I found out in the manga naruto's elemental affinity leans towards wind. Here are reasons why I think such an ability transcends uchiha's fire or kakashi's lightning and therefore why naruto's power will overtake sasuke's.

Sasuke's 1000 currents of lightning moves through particles of air. Naruto's ability to manipulate air (which is basicaly what wind is) could nullify this chidori attack.
Note wind also controlls fire, so again sasuke's fire elemental jutsu could be totally nullified.
will naruto be able to fly,.... like the wind?

Wind can be used to make a protective barrier, and even controll missiles such as shurinken, this is quite usefull i.e. directing a kunai at an opponent or preventing theirs from hitting you.

Wind can be be used to move and manipulate objects i.e. sand or a person fire cannot.

Wind can be specificaly controlled to totaly shred an object or make fine cuts whilst fire can only totaly destroys an object, therefore you get more conroll with wind.

Basically wind can do all fire can do, and much more including totataly controlling fire.
what do you think will prove the most powerfull elemental jutsu.

I would also read the 316 spoilers. It changes a lot of things.

i think that wind combined with fire would be pretty badass....you know like a fire typhoon or something

we have already seen wind types (the fan girl, her name escapes me at the moment) lose to others. So though good points there are some weaknesses to wind as well.
