I don't hate them but I just don't really enjoy stealth games like Metal Gear Solid & Splinter Cell. The whole sneaking around doesn't appeal to me but it seems that everyone else praises them so highly.

I'm on your same boat but Splinter Cell (1, 2 and 3) are all amazing games. I did like how they added the assualt feature in Chaos Theory, even though it wasn't as cool as it should've been. Splinter Cell Double Agent looks promising though, it looks as if it's not all stealth now.

But maybe stealth games aren't your thing? That's perfectly fine.

Eh. Not my thing. I rather just bust in and kill things. Sneaking around bores me. I have such a short attention span

I suck at stealth games, I always trip an alarm and get killed. I vastly prefer the "guns-a-blazin'" approach to playing games....

I love stealth. Is there really any better way to kill someone then sneak up behind and snap their neck? I love running into rooms guns blazing too though.

MGS is and isnt a stealth game, stealth isnt quite as pivotal as it is in say SC where if your found your dead period.

Tenchu is still the best stealth game, the original of course.

MGS is and isnt a stealth game...
It's called "Tactical Espionage Action" in the game title...I was under the impression that meant "stealth."

I have MGS2, and I enjoy it because I can play it on the easiest setting, and get basically the same ending as playing it on hard. If I want the extra stuff, that's what game shark is for. Half the fun is getting caught, and seeing just how effective the bad guy AI is. I just wish the game would work properly, and let me use the ninja sword when I have it, instead of it just being there for decoration.

Anyhow, If you don't like MGS or splinter Cell, I can relate to that. I've always preferred the run & gun style to the sneak & creep style. I think maybe that's why they gave MGS3 an online shooting mode. You get to find the stealth person and shoot 'em up, or you get to be the stealth person.

I'm not too fond of the stealth genre myself. Like in MGS3 for example, there were many times when I thought to myself, "what's so fun about laying in the grass for five minutes?" I guess I can understand why some people enjoy them, but they just aren't my thing.

I agree. I don't enjoy those types of games at all. They are so boring. There's just no appeal there. As for me, I'm more of an RPG man myself =D

I like SOME stealth, but not all. Cant get into the Splinter Cell games. I loved the first MGS, but the rest I could only play so much.

I dig some stealth games, but like most I can do without em. It's just that I am naturally clumsy in life lol...I think I have tripped more alarms in the Splinter Cell series by trying to sneak than I would have by just running through the level with my eyes closed lol.

It's funny, my dislike for stealthy situations has me in fear of playing stealthy characters like rogues and thieves lol...

Funny, just the other day I finally got around to playing the first Splinter Cell that had been on my backburner for ages, and it made me realized I absolutely love having to play stealth. It's like, even when you're just standing there crouched for like 5 minutes, waiting for a guard to get into position, the prospect of being caught makes it so it's still intense and exciting. Running in to a room and blowing everything apart with pure power and violence never gets old, of course, but sometimes it's nice to have to rely on skill and precision.

Between Tenchu, the little bit of SC I've now played, and to a lesser extent MGS, I've enjoyed stealth games in my limited experience with them, but I can see why some people wouldn't.....

I can honestly see why some folks might not enjoy stealth to the degree that they might get a kick out of going in with guns a blazin' (there's a lot of fun with that kind of action no doubt, and I enjoy that route as much as the next joe) but I've got to admit that I find the stealth aspects of games like Splinter Cell very entertaining -- I think it's the "silent but deadly" aspect that's as rewarding if/when games allow you to employ those methods.

All that said, too often I get frustrated with the stealth aspects that some games employ as they can become so restrictive that all the fun is sucked right out of it. Part of the beauty of the Splinter Cell and MGS series, among others, is that you have the option of shooting first and asking questions later to your hearts content, or sneaking your way around and taking out the bad guys silently, yet profieciently.

I enjoy stealth game's allot.... but don't like splinter cell, metal gear solid and Tenchu are more of my stealth game. one of the reason's i like them is becouse they are some of the very few game's around that are challanging and not an insult to my ability's "cough" god of war "cough" i liked MGS2 so much i beat the thing on on all difficulty's (except easy of course) couldn't stand splinter cell so much that after the lame end mission i sold it.

I love stealth games. I don't know why but theres so much fun in creeping around, snapping random peoples necks. Strait on assualt is fun too (espically if you got a shotgun) but sneaking seems much funnier and has always been my main way to go. Its all pistols and sniper rifles for me.

Well, I always found the MGS series to be a 50/50 thing when it came to stealth. I always thought that Kojima should make a Batman game with character designs by Jim Lee. But thats just me.

I never got to play the Splinter Cell games. I've heard great things, but never found the time to play them.

I will admit, for as little as I enjoy the "stealth" genre, I can't count how many times I've shouted "oh sh*t!" every time I got caught.

I personally can't stand stealth games. I'm the kind of person who goes in guns blazing and likes taking a roomfull of people down in less than ten seconds. Maybe that's why I haven't beaten Killzone yet...? That or I was too busy smashing Disney villains in Kingdom Hearts. :P

I dislike the genre, I played a splinter cell demo and it looked interesting but I just couldnt get into it because I hate stealth style. I like to be more wreckless in games really. I hate having to sneak around slowly.

Depends. I never could get into MGS, Tenchu is one of my favorite game series, and I have never played any Splinter Cells. Basically, I can't stand being found out only to automatically lose. In a game like Tenchu, at least I can defend myself. Plus ninjas are cooler than any soldier any day.

It seems obvious that none of you have played any of the "Thief" games. Either The Dark Project, Metal Age or more recently Deadly Shadows.

Anyone can run up against a small army of opponents with bullets flying and make a huge mess in the process, but to sneak into castle or installation, loot the entire place and get out without any one even knowing you were there takes patience and skill. There is a certain sense of satisfaction making an operation quiet and clean.

Dang kids cant appreciate the strategy, challenge, and calculated risk of stealth.

The whole element behind stealth was an alternative to the random run-and-gun style of games.Hideo Kojima said this during a interview about MGS,some people might not like the stealth tatics,it takes a sort of paitence degree.

That's what I was thinking as I read this thread. Thief is one of the best games I've played. Especially the Gold edition, with the extra missions in the right order for the narrative.

What made that game for me was the sound. When the fire elementals got angry, they SOUNDED like angry fireballs. When the ghosts saw you, the legion of voices coming from them sounded more agitated. Different acoustics for different spaces. Brilliant stuff - and it made it much more immersive to me. I still remember getting creeped out when The Eye spoke to me at the back of the Cathedral: "Comes a man to rescue me...."

...to sneak into castle or installation, loot the entire place and get out without any one even knowing you were there takes patience and skill. There is a certain sense of satisfaction making an operation quiet and clean.
Damn straight.

The other thing I liked about Thief was that it was finally designed to play a game the way I like to play a shooter. I played the original Half-Life as a sneaker - stalking up on the army guys to take 'em down before they knew what hit them. The crossbow and .357 were my friends. I was at one with the ductwork. I quietly cleared out all the opposition I could before breaking out the big guns, and even then I was just as likely to make additional noise in order to lure the enemy into a trap. I prided myself on the creative use of DetPacks and Tripmines.

The other title I really enjoyed was Deus Ex. You could become an unstoppable killing machine or a deadly shadow. I became the latter. I'd stalk through the game, check out my situation, then clear out my targets one at a time. Once the way was clear, I'd concentrate on my objectives. The sequel was fun, too. I did use gratuitous firepower in a few situations, but only after I'd taken care of any 'help' that might be summoned.

Nah, its not about strategy, its about not finding waiting in the shadow for two minutes to be fun. It's about patience, nothing else, and I'll use my patience on something else thanks.

That makes so much sense. Too bad game dev's probably don't read these boards, because that's a game I'd love to get my mitts on.

It all comes down to prefrence. I used to love RPGs, and now loathe them.(Not a flame war thing, just another random genre.)

I, of course, love stealth Games.

MGS, SC, SF and Tenchu happen' to be part of my favorite game series.

I <3 stealth.... Okay, that was lame.

I love Metal Gear and That game Headhunter. I never really got into splinter cell but it looks pretty cool. On the whole i just enjoy games with good story. If its a stealth game then cool but it doesnt have to be. The only exeption for me is rpgs. they have good stories but i dont really get into them...

But anyways if you play metal gear on like medium and below modes, you can really just assault people and you wil have the same effect as sneaking. When me and my friend play, i always sneak but he just shoots away and you can still beat the game

I like that Headhunter game for Dreamcast, but is it actually stealth? It was more like an action title.
