From Right Stuf:
Sorry DBZ fans, but we've just received word from Funimation that they're postponing the release of their upcoming Dragon Ball Z Season 1 box set. No release date is currently available, but fans can look forward to more news early next year.
From Funimation:
We will re-announce this title with a new release date in Quarter 1 2007, and there will be other major announcements concerning the property at that time. These season sets are being enhanced and restored, and many new features are being added. Runtimes and packaging will also be different.
Maybe this is wishful thinking but could FUNi be getting new video and extras from the Dragon Box released in Japan. That would be great. ^_^ Considering how FUNi has been trying to mirror the R2 releases, like with Samurai 7, I reaaly hope so.

I don't really follow DBZ news these days, what's the big deal with this set? Isn't DBZ already out on DVD?

Basically, this is the first of many box sets that will take out the hassle of collecting a 290-ish episode TV series for a very cheap price of under $50 per set.

Ahh. Got a link? I'd like to find out more, such as the episode count. There's no real telling what they consider to be "a season", is there? If they are planning arbitrary sets of 26 episodes each, that will probably end up breaking sagas over more than one box, which wouldn't be idea.

The first season box set was going to have episodes 1-39 and it's retail price was $50 (a lot less when you include retail price).

^2 Most of the info comes from various retail sites like Right Stuf and comments made by FUNi reps about how they were reworking DBZ in a new managable format. I can give you some links to the Right Stuf page, solicitation on AoD, but I'm not sure how much use it'll be to you since as the info in my first post mentioned, they are changing details, like runtime, around from what's been previously tossed around before.
Also,we haven't gotten much specific information about these sets, a FUNi rep even mentioned over on the AoD forums to look towards their panel at Otakon when more details would come.

Hmm, the first box they had planned for September ("Dragonball Z Vegeta Saga I Box Set DVD") was only eps 1-18. But a certain retailer had it for $10, so it wasnt that bad of a deal.
The retailer is still selling it for that date, but i notice that animenation took the box off their site.

That's really not bad at all. That's the kind of price that could actually make me buy DBZ. Well done, Funimation!

Bezerker, could you PM a link to that site? I thought it was episodes 1-39 too and even Right Stuf has their page still up for the boxset. It clearly lists 975 minutes and their usually accurate with their information.

Half the sites that have it listed say Episodes 1-18, half say 975 minutes (which would sum out to 39-45 episodes) . 39 episodes would leave it in the middle of the Namek saga before Vegeta is revived. All the other sites also say that its 6 discs, while RightStuf says 5...
My guess is the only way to be sure would to get the info from Funi themselves, pm sent.

Hmm...still, thanks. I guess it's all moot anyway since the runtime is being changed from whatever it was in the first place.

Something tells me it won't retain the 50 dollar price, which means i probably wont buy it if it does.

For some reason, this makes me think of the multiple ways Evangelion was released... but I would actually go for this. If there was to be a cheaper, easier way to get all of DBZ, I may just go for it. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

These episodes have never been released here uncut. The original airings were butchered beyond belief. The Saiyan Saga is the only part I like in the series.
What could be different, you ask?

Well, this would be great for people like me, who have declined to attempt buying all the single dvds. $50 for 39 episodes? I'm in. Of course this will change, but I'm sure it'll still be quite affordable. Of course the phrase "reworking in a more manageable format" worries me.
While I seriously doubt this, they might be shooting for a blu-ray only release. Again, they probably wouldnt do this, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that part of the reasoning behind the delay is based on a blu-ray release (in addition to a dvd release).
The only reason I even consider this possiblity, is because of the recent news, that manufacturing issues with blu-ray equipment, have caused delays in its release. Delays that could push it back into next year.

Why go through the trouble if you're just going to go back and order it again? Just leave the order as it is and forget about it. If they do change things around in specs and you no longer want it, then cancel the order. Or if the price changes, and you no longer want it. But right now, just leave it be if you know you actually want it. It's not like you'll be charged for it until is actually ships. Of course, if there's a dramatic change in the solicitation, the order will be dropped for you anyway.
