View Full Version : How popular is Emma in her native land (England)?

I'm talking about the manga, not the Jane Austen book.
I'm just curious as to the reaction of most English people who happen to come across it, whether it be amusment from a Japanese depiction of English weather (sunny, not rainy and dreary like it really is), or amazment by the amount of research and though put into the character/story.

Then that's not her native land. I'd never heard of the manga version until you posted. I guess this country has enough manga fans that some of them might know it, but really, I just don't imagine it's popular. I know I tend to have an intense aversion to portrayals of England or the English by foreign writers.

I'm british and have never even heard of that series. HMV dosen't appear to stock it and there is an immense lack of its presense in my local comic shop.

Funnily enough, England is currently going through a ginormous heatwave, yesterday the celsius was in it's 90s, hot anough to melt tarmac. Yet again, another person who follows T.V stereotypes.

My bad. I'm just taking my English brother-in-law's word about the weather there. Oh well...

ya they are in a drought -_-;
when I came across the manga, I thought the setting was well drawn and depicted. I wasn't to interested in the weather as compared to the historical accuracy. Though I did notice she got caught in the rain quite a few times.

The celsius was in the 90's, less than 10 degrees away from water boiling? Are you sure you didn't mean Fahrenheit? After all, when the Fahrenheit is in the 90's, I'm hot, and that's over 200 degrees from the water boiling temperature.
(And when the Kelvin is in the 90's, I'm a popsicle.)

Yes it was Fahrenheit. 90 Celsius and I wouldn't be typing this message right now!
I also live in England and it is safe to say that our weather is pretty dull for most of the year. I hate intense heat (these past few days have been a nightmare!), and I love calm, warm, dull days. Sunny afternoons depress me because I feel like everyone else is enjoying the sun, while I would rather be sat in playing games.
Thunderstorms are wicked!
The perfect excuse to get cosy reading a manga.

Whoops. Must've meant Fahrenheit, no wonder I got a low mark in my report for mathematics @__@
I can take dry heat but not humid heat, That's how I survived in Israel two weeks ago.
This heat Britain is having currently is indeed unbearable.

I definetly couldnt go anywhere as hot as Israel. However, I've found that in other countries, the heat isnt as unbearable as it is in England. Over here it's just so humid that it's impossible to walk around in the sun.

It seems as if this Emma manga is not out yet in England, based on what most English posters have said...

I haven't seen nor heard of this manga in England. I wonder how well they have adapted the novel into a manga. It seems a strange choice of book to convert.

That's because it's not based on the Jane Austen book. It just happens to have the same title.
